What if joy isn’t something we have to achieve, but something we can learn to notice? In this episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with Ulrika Torquato, creator of Joyering®, a simple app and practice that helps people recognise moments of joy already present in everyday life. With a background in medicine, opera and the arts, Ulrika spent years pursuing achievements she thought would bring her validation and happiness. Instead, she found herself feeling lost. Then, during a walk, she began to notice the joy around her. That moment changed the way she saw her life.Ulrika and I explore how small moments can reveal what truly matters, why achievement doesn’t always bring the fulfilment we expect, and how paying attention to joy can shape the way we move through each day. This is a beautiful reminder to slow down, look around and notice what’s already here. In this episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with clinical psychologist Dr. Matthew Campbell about creating sustainable self-care without burnout, guilt, or the pressure to be perfect.Dr. Campbell explains why motivation often fades, why so many people struggle to remain consistent, and how simple structure can help us improve our mental and physical wellbeing. He is the co-creator of Our Primal 5, a practical framework centred on five foundational areas of health: sleep, sunlight, movement, social connection, and consumption. We also explore the power of harnessing our emotions rather than allowing them to control us. Our emotions are valuable messengers, but they don’t have to dictate our decisions or behaviour. By learning to understand, regulate, and respond to them intentionally, we can make healthier choices and create meaningful, lasting change.Dr. Campbell’s message is refreshingly simple: we don’t need to overhaul our lives overnight or wait until we feel motivated. When we focus on the fundamentals and help ourselves feel better first, positive change becomes far more possible. This is an empowering conversation filled with practical insights to help you care for yourself, work with your emotions, and build a healthier life—one sustainable step at a time. What happens when the betrayal that nearly destroys you becomes the catalyst for rebuilding your life and protecting others? In this powerful episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with Tampa-based entrepreneur Justin Smith, founder of Cray—the innovative dating safety app born from his own devastating experience. After being blindsided by a partner of eight years, Justin found himself facing heartbreak, betrayal and the painful task of rebuilding his life. But he made a courageous decision: this would not be the end of his story.Over the next 18 months, Justin began the journey back to himself. Central to that process was rebuilding his self-worth—learning to trust his instincts, recognise his value and understand that another person’s actions did not define who he was or what he deserved.Drawing on his background in psychological test publishing and his blunt, forward-thinking approach, Justin created Cray to help people identify red flags sooner, trust their intuition and date with clarity rather than chaos. He is now on a mission to make safer, smarter dating the norm for everyone. This conversation explores betrayal, resilience, dating safety, emotional recovery and why developing genuine self-worth is essential—not only for choosing healthier relationships, but also for having the courage to walk away from those that diminish us.Your most painful chapter does not have to be the end of your story. It may simply be the beginning of a powerful new one.An awesome, honest and inspiring podcast—not to be missed. To find out more about JUstin and the Cray App, Click HereMy website is www.andrewjobling.com.au
In this inspiring episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with author, speaker and coach Cherry Ward, whose work brings together timeless Japanese wisdom and modern leadership practices. Cherry’s journey began far from a coaching room. She was just eight years old when her family fled Burma during the 1988 pro-democracy uprising. Overnight, the map they had lived by was no longer relevant. Everything familiar fell away, and Cherry learned what it takes to find your footing, adapt and navigate through uncertainty. That experience helped shape the course of her life and work. Years later, Cherry developed a deep connection with Japan through skiing, learning the language and immersing herself in its culture. Japanese wisdom gave her a different way of understanding strength, stillness, imperfection and leadership. It helped her recognise that leadership is not always about having all the answers—it is often about learning how to navigate. In this thoughtful conversation, Cherry introduces powerful Japanese principles and explores the importance of kokoro—the integration of heart, mind and spirit. She shares how embracing stillness, listening deeply and accepting imperfection can help us become more grounded, authentic and effective leaders. We also discuss Cherry’s new book, Lead with Kokoro, and how its principles can help us lead ourselves and others with greater courage, clarity, compassion and purpose. This is a fascinating and deeply meaningful conversation about resilience, reinvention and discovering the wisdom that can be found in the silence between the notes. Not to be missed! What enables someone to survive the unimaginable—and emerge not only alive, but psychologically strong? In this extraordinary episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with Derrick McManus, a former South Australian Police officer who served in the elite Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) Group. Trained as a sniper and diver, Derrick also received specialist counterterrorism training from the military’s elite Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). While attempting to arrest a high-risk offender, Derrick’s life changed in less than five seconds. The offender fired 18 shots, striking Derrick 14 times. Critically wounded, Derrick lay bleeding for three hours before he could be rescued. His survival was remarkable—but what happened afterward was equally extraordinary. Despite expectations that he would experience severe post-traumatic stress disorder and require decades of psychological therapy, Derrick defied the odds. Just three months after the shooting, he attended a single appointment with the Director of the Adelaide Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies and was psychologically cleared to return to full duties with the STAR Group. His physical recovery, understandably, took much longer. Derrick credits his response to the way he had proactively prepared himself—physically, mentally and emotionally—for the possible consequences of the choices he had made. He accepted responsibility, understood the risks and developed a powerful perspective that helped him remain resilient in an extreme and potentially overwhelming VUCA environment. This approach has since evolved into the Human Durability model and forms the foundation of Derrick’s work through the Australian Centre for Human Durability. In this gripping conversation, we explore: What it takes to remain composed in extreme circumstances The crucial difference between preparation and prediction Why emotional preparation matters as much as physical and mental readiness How personal responsibility strengthens resilience The role perspective plays during trauma, adversity and uncertainty Why durability is about more than simply surviving How Derrick’s experience can help us prepare for challenges in our own lives Derrick’s story is confronting, remarkable and deeply inspiring. It demonstrates that although we cannot control everything that happens to us, we can prepare ourselves to respond with courage, responsibility and perspective. This is a powerful conversation about preparation, perspective and the extraordinary durability of the human spirit—not to be missed. In this powerful and deeply moving episode of The Wellness Puzzle Podcast, I speak with Sheryl Hauk—author, retired music educator, survivor advocate, and an inspiring example of courage and resilience. Sheryl is the author of Piece by Piece: A Memoir of Survival, Resilience, and the Power of Creativity. Her book explores what it means to break the silence, reclaim your voice, and rebuild your life after childhood trauma. With remarkable honesty, dark humour, and deep compassion, Sheryl shares her journey of healing and the important roles that storytelling, music, and creativity have played in helping her make sense of her experiences. We discuss the courage required to speak your truth, the process of putting the pieces of your life back together, and how sharing our stories can create connection, inspire hope, and become a powerful catalyst for change. Sheryl’s story reminds us that while trauma may shape parts of our lives, it does not have to define who we are or what we can become. This is a courageous, heartfelt, and inspiring conversation about survival, resilience, creativity, advocacy, and the healing power of reclaiming your voice. It is a powerful podcast not to be missed. To find out more about Sheryl, Click Here My website is www.andrewjobling.com.au
