My guest in this episode is Caz Grant, who at 41 years young, joins me to share her journey in health, fitness and her current battle / experience with Perimenopause. We discuss her adventures in the RAF, world travel and sports, from bobsleigh and golf to running and weight training. Caz is candid with her stories, regarding body changes, emotional ups and downs, physical challenges and her outlook for her future health. Longevity and quality of life are paramount in her plans, as she enters her 40s, of which nutrition, sleep and strength training are front and centre. All this, whilst juggling her professional career in SEO / marketing, is of course taxing on Caz's time and body and subsequently it's essential she manages her expectations in all things Perimenopause. My guest in this full length episode is Sara Bird, of Flight, an organisation supporting women aged fifty and upwards to remain healthy, engaged and productive as their careers extend. Applying her PHD research and lived experience, enables Sara to produce world leading - evidence based health span and longevity strategies. Her organization (Flight) is a workforce advisory, education and mentoring practice, of which is essential to women in the workplace, due to declining health spans in women over 60, leading towards material business risk, impact retention, productivity, absence and institutional knowledge. Sara has appeared on national TV shows and also written a book titled Fatorexia: What Do You See When You Look In The Mirror. On a personal level, Sara shares her own journey from weight management and body fat reduction to raising her children, whilst simultaneously overseeing a director position within various national and international companies. We discuss obesity related health implications and the long term consequences stemming from excess weight gain. Whilst we both work within the health and fitness sector, both Sara and I are always open to new strategies, of which the topic of weight loss medications comes into our conversation and how to navigate its's pros and cons respectively. We also touch on how our physical health impacts relationships with families, friends, work colleagues and significant others, whereby Sara opens up about her experiences, good and bad from a young age to her current 61 years young. May I take the opportunity to thank Sara for joining me on this channel and wish her the best in her professional career and personal endeavours going forward. In this short discussion I share my thoughts on the long running issue of home buyers putting a house, flat, condo or apartment above their physical health and fitness. Ordinarily the often coined term is 'House Rich, Cash Poor' however, in this instance, as a professional personal trainer, I've gone for the above title. It's not un unusual for young couples to essentially sign up to a 25-30 year mortgage (AKA debt) in the excitement of owning their first home / stepping onto the property ladder. Whilst this part of our economy is always up and down, the same can be said of our health and fitness. The most important room in our home is the kitchen and the bedroom, for quality nutrition and sleep respectively. We should always consider our own health, when decorating and furnishing our homes, as opposed to how fancy, flamboyant and shiny the wallpaper and bathroom taps are. In this short but memorable episode I discuss my recent bout of food poisoning, contracted in a well know national chain restaurant. Last Saturday I was enjoying a simple chicken risotto dinner in good company, located in Hull city centre UK. No starters, no snacks, no deserts, just a main course of hot, tasty, creamy risotto, which only 5 minutes after finishing I was subjected to three vomiting bouts, of which much to the dismay of fellow diners, my date and the manager, I was unable to even make it to the men's bathroom to purge my body of the fast acting poison and recently consumed meal. A sense of shock and surprise racked my body to a point of near loss of consciousness and then of course the embarrassment to cap it all off. 3 days of barely any proper food consumption and almost zero fresh fruit or vegetables, left me physically weak and dehydrated, so it was off to my local GP for examination and prescribed medication to suit. By day four, I was gradually eating solid carbohydrates & limited protein sources, but zero meat, fish or poultry until I was certain I could hold down a full meal. I took electrolytes drinks, hot tea and paracetamol, alongside my medication and by day 6, was working / walking and returned to light resistance training again. My point to this cautionary tale is not to avoid dining out or enjoying any form of food and beverage outside the home kitchen, but to emphasize the need to always stay in good physical condition, allowing for a speedy recovery from illness and or injury. Try to minimize the possibility of food poisoning when travelling or even in your home town / city....always read the label. By the way, I got a refund from the establishment within four days and subsequently won't name and shame the restaurant in question. Stay healthy folks and I'll be back next week for more content on all things health and fitness related. Watch the episode on YouTube, listen on Spotify or Amazon Music. Thanks for listening.
In this short discussion I touch on a topical / current conversation and observation on the poor physical health of England Football fans watching or even attending the world cup. The cameras at games, social media uploads or just plain old eye tests in the high streets tell us all we need to know, regarding the often overlooked physical health and or appearance of British football revelers. The media bombarded our channels last week with a hit piece on the Scotland fans literally emptying local bars and pubs in Boston USA, by way of drinking the establishments dry. This is great business for the bars and pubs in question, but not so much for the liver, pancreas and abdominal / ectopic fat levels under attack. It's possible for a football fan to return home carrying an extra 7-10 lbs in added excess bodyweight, even if he or she only stayed for the initial 2 weeks, as their respective country got knocked out during the early stages of the month long tournament. As I've witnessed in Lincoln city UK hundreds of unhealthily overweight men (and women) out in the dreaded England football tops, it's impossible to un-see the startling levels of obesity among the well meaning fans. My advice, as a professional personal trainer is to simply stop the alcohol consumption completely, or at the very least reduce the volume and regularity of beer, cider, ale and wine o clock. What do you think? Have you also witnessed this unhealthy trend? Watch the short episode on YouTube or listen on Spotify and Amazon Music. Thanks for listening.

In part three of my movie quote discussions THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY, I look at the ugly fat found in our bodies and the consequences of rising ectopic fat throughout the following regions. THE LIVER, ABDOMEN, PANCREAS, HEART, LUNGS, MUSCLE, KIDNEYS, NECK, BRAIN. Whilst the term ugly fat is not the correct way to describe these (it's actually described as ectopic fat in the medical world) I've simply used this term for creative reasons. It's advisable to identify where we are building up excess unhealthy ectopic / ugly fat, by way of blood tests and or scans with our professional physicians or doctors. Often these fatty deposits are not visible to the naked eye, with perhaps exception for abdominal and neck fat. Should we find ourselves, post scan and blood tests, to be harboring ugly fat, then start definitive health changes at the earliest opportunity to at worst slow down the increasing levels, or at best reverse the poor health markers and return to a healthier body and future. Listen to the back catalogue of episodes on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts for all things health and fitness related. Feel free to comment and subscribe to the channel for more free content. In part 2 of 3 short episodes, I discuss bad fat, within our bodies. Bad fat is primarily located within 3 areas, being subcutaneous fat, orbital fat and fat soluble vitamins. These bad fat areas if left unchecked give rise to a multitude of physiological complications within our bodies and as such its advisable to make adjustments when necessary, by way of a healthy diet, regular exercise and visits to your GP, Personal Trainer, Dietician and or Endocrinologist. Part 3 of 3 to follow next week. Watch the episode on YouTube, listen on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Podcasts. Feel free to comment, share and subscribe to the channel for more content.
