We would probably all agree that listening in on your partner’s therapy sessions or reading their journals is wrong, but what about reading their ChatGPT history? More and more people are working through issues in their personal lives using their AI chatbots as a journal-meets-therapist, and that might include relationship issues. And when someone inevitably finds some less than flattering information about themselves typed out to their partner’s own personal robot… shit gets sticky. Are we old now? Because we can’t remember anything anymore. Maybe it’s because of our hormones, or maybe it’s early-onset dementia, or maybe (okay, almost definitely) it’s due to our algorithm-trained brains forgetting how to focus on anything for more than 1.7 seconds. Nobody likes a girl who hates on other girls, especially for the benefit of men. Once upon a time, when we were younger, we would brag about how we “weren’t like other girls,” but now we know better. Our female friendships have saved us from our darkest moments, and we’d be honored to be exactly like other women. Femininity isn’t a weakness—it’s strength to find beauty and connection even in the darkest times. We don’t hate the “pick-me” girls out there, but we do feel kind of embarrassed for them. The Bird Life [1:20]Pick-me behavior [4:56]Taking up a misogynist narrative [7:57]Our female friendships have saved us [9:19]Seeing femininity as weakness [11:29]Internalized self-hatred [13:42]Finding an appreciation for beauty [16:40]Gaining maturity [21:41]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Our algorithms feed us the things we consume the most, and unfortunately for us, we love looking at memes about men being evil. But as funny as the people of the internet are, we do want to be mindful of what we’re consuming because what consumer colors our perception of the world—and believe it or not, we don’t actually hate men. But the same thing is true for memes about being broke, fat, ugly, or any other negative thing we could call ourselves. If we take too much of it in, it starts to become our reality, and that’s not the Best Life we dreamed for ourselves, all those years ago.In the new studio [0:59]The importance of meeting your neighbors [3:08]You create what you consume [6:04]Relating to a reality you don’t want [9:06]It’s hard to look away from a train-wreck [12:22]We all need higher standards [13:51]Making peace with being alone [15:42]Don’t let things outside your control ruin your life [18:13]When are we crossing into delusion? No one is more dramatic than a man who gets his advances rejected. We don’t mean to speak for every woman, but also… we’re pretty sure every single woman has either had an experience where a man lashed out at her for saying no, or she had to lie instead of saying no out of fear of backlash. We’ve heard men complain that they “can’t even approach women in public anymore” but we have no problem with being approached! The issue is that men just don’t seem to be able to take “no” for an answer. Our advice to men? Just be normal. Please, for the love of god, just be fucking normal. Break ups are hard enough as it is, but the longer you’re with someone, the more of a logistical mess it is to end your relationship. There are finances, housing, and even family members to consider as you separate your lives—but none of those are good reasons to stay if your heart is already telling you to go. We won’t lie to you, Bestie, it’s going to be hard. You just have to trust yourself to handle the hard stuff one day at a time, and know that you deserve happiness and peace… and sometimes the quickest way there is through the messy middle. Being in love is great and all, but the real benefit to being in a relationship is the opportunity to split costs. It’s ridiculously expensive just to be alive, which leaves single people unfairly disadvantaged—they have to take care of everything on their own. And it’s not just the financial burden you face when you’re single, there are social struggles, too. While everyone else has a person to celebrate the ups with and get support from during the downs, you have to ride the waves mostly on your own. We think it’s time to start sending a little more support to your single friends… and maybe a few hundred bucks, while you’re at it.An awful first date [2:13]Everything costs more when you’re single [8:28]Making time to celebrate your people [12:34]No where is left that’s affordable [14:21]The older generations aren’t keeping up with the times [18:36]Wanting to celebrate with someone [20:28]You have to allow people to show up for you [24:16]Thoughts on divorce registries [24:52]Starting from scratch costs an arm and a leg [27:28]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Lettershttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! We all probably agree that men, as a group, need to be going to therapy. But when it comes to your individual man… is it okay to demand that they go? We know firsthand exactly how therapy can make relationships better so of course we’d want our partners to try it out, but therapy still carries a lot of stigma, especially to men. We can try to lead them to therapy, but there’s no good outcome when forcing it, so your best bet is to draw your line in the sand, and be willing to let the chips fall, even if it means walking away.
