We sit down with Riley Coulter and Parker Huhn to learn more about what they're building with the Driftless Distance Project. We get the origin story. They saw a void a lot of college runners have of missing team structure after they graduate. After watching so many great performances happen in the WIAC, Riley wanted to create a environment for people to continue to get after it.They break down their different levels of the team: Elite, Emerging Elite, and Club. They're able to work a small deal out with Mizuno through a local running store but hope to get a title sponsor for their 50+ athletes. They have D3 roots and support many D3 athletes. Kassie Parker is in the middle of a breakout year, and this conversation catches her right in the thick of it.After a rocky transition out of D3, where strong training at Hansons just wasn't translating to race day, she made the move back home to Iowa and found her form again. Now she's riding a hot streak: a win at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and her first USATF national title, all while working part-time as a pharmacy tech and finishing up grad school for social work. She talks through the mental disconnect that nearly pushed her away from the sport, bouncing back from a broken collarbone just weeks before a race, and what it's like running solo to the front of the pack, a habit from her D3 days that's carried right into her pro career. She also opens up about brand rejections fueling her fire, her budding rivalry with Rachel Rudolf, and her marathon debut goal at CIM this December: a bold 2:23.A reminder that the jump from D3 standout to pro isn't always smooth, but sticking with it pays off.Tailwind Nutrition is sponsoring today's episode. Kai Smith had one goal for this season: go out legendary. He did just that.He entered the meet as the #10 seed in the 100m and walked away a champion. He moves to #2 All-Time running 10.14 and #3 All-Time in the 200m. He credits his passion to his coaches and teammates for pushing him especially after not having 2025 go the way he wanted. He started sprinting his senior year of high school so his sprinting age is young! He's going to see what he can accomplish.Tailwind Nutrition is sponsoring today's episode.
