Thomas Coyle MNZM has worked in forensic science for over 37 years, including service with New Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom and the New Zealand Police. He currently works as a consultant forensic scientist and expert witness for the courts of New Zealand and Australia. Thomas is also a facilitator for the Ministry of Education, delivering forensic science education to students throughout New Zealand, and regularly conducts forensic workshops for corporate groups and professional training seminars. Thomas is the author of a brand-new book 'The Dead Speak'
Grace Brown is a 2025 Winston Churchill Fellow whose work focuses on reimagining accessibility for deaf and neurodivergent learners. She brings a rare blend of creative agency experience, kaupapa‑driven communication, and lived expertise as a multilingual, neurodivergent Māori communicator. Grace has worked across some of Aotearoa’s most recognisable campaigns, weaving together English, te reo Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language to make information clearer, kinder, and more culturally grounded. Her Fellowship will take her to the UK to explore how AR, digital media, and global accessibility design can transform the way we teach and learn NZSL back home.

Karen McMillan is the author of 25 books, published in eleven countries, a mixture of fiction, non-fiction and children's books. Her books have published in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Poland, Germany and the US. She has had three books hit the NZ top ten bestseller list. Her work has been short-listed for the Ashton Wylie Book Award and was the New Zealand finalist in the Gourmand World Awards 2018 health and nutrition category. Most recently, Karen has been writing children’s books, with her series Elastic Island Adventures published by Duckling Publishing. Karen is also the Director of NZ Booklovers, has instigated the NZ Booklovers Awards, and she is a regular reviewer on TV and radio. So we find out what is it about our fascination with books, how hard is it to write a book, why do we love certain characters in books and what would Karen recommend to purchase this xmas for a great read.
