The shiur traces why fire and light hold a singular place in Torah thought: unlike any other physical substance, fire can be shared without diminishment, expands beyond its source, and never grows old. These qualities make it the closest analogy in creation to Hashem's own infinite light. Rav Dov Ber also teaches that the neshama itself is called a ner, and that lighting candles with kavana is an act of illuminating one's inner divine light, of choosing emunah over anxiety, and of stepping fully into presence at the close of the week.
