In a weird way, all their idiocy is interconnected.They're symptoms of a broader worldview.Look at foreign policy.The same movement that warns endlessly about threats to democracy often seems oddly reluctant to confront regimes that actually suppress democracy.Iran gets nuance.China gets nuance.Hostile governments get nuance.American citizens who disagree politically get investigations.That's a curious set of priorities.Then there's the military.Historically, armies existed to win wars.Simple concept.Not complicated.You train fighters.You develop strategy.You project strength.You defeat enemies.Yet increasingly, our military appears expected to function as a graduate seminar with camouflage.Diversity metrics.Sensitivity training.Identity initiatives.Social theories.Everything except the one thing soldiers have traditionally been expected to do.Fight and win.Again, the contradiction emerges.
