We're a nation with fewer dishwashers

Over the last decade, the American right pushed for less immigration, while the left demanded higher minimum wages. Both won.Put those realities in a blender, and you get a Wall Street Journal headline like this: “Restaurants are finding it harder than ever to hire someone to wash the dishes.”These jobs are often under-the-table or first jobs. And if you’re worried about I.C.E., or could make close to twenty bucks an hour working fast food or retail, I wouldn’t do it either.And it makes me think of John Edwards, the politician from the 2000s, who used to say that we live in two Americas.He’s right and wrong.Because we live in many Americas but one nation, in a continuous trench warfare or tomorrow: in this case, a tomorrow with fewer dishwashers.On that note, I’m James A.
