Well, one example is that of Josh Clapham, who joined Argyle in the summer of 2006 after excelling during his time at the University of Plymouth. Put forward by his uni coach, the legendary Fred Binney, he impressed Ian Holloway sufficiently to give him a contract for the season. Now, despite never playing a competitive game for Argyle, Josh did play in that famous friendly with Real Madrid and lived out his, and many others, childhood dream of being a professional footballer.
