95 // Why I Don't Believe in Niching Down (At First)

One of the biggest pieces of Etsy advice I completely disagree with is that you have to pick your niche before you even start your shop. Apparently, somewhere out there, the Etsy Niche Police are waiting to arrest you if you sell a teacher printable, a wedding invitation, and a meal planner in the same shop. I don't think that's true. In fact, I think choosing a niche too early is one of the fastest ways to build your shop around your own assumptions instead of actual buyer demand. Now, don't get me wrong. I absolutely believe that many successful Etsy sellers eventually become known for something. I just don't think you have enough information to force that decision before you've even made your first few sales.
