This week, we examine Jesus’ warning to the church in Pergamum. They had not openly rejected Jesus, but they had learned to tolerate practices that divided their allegiance. What begins as pressure can become accommodation, and what we repeatedly accommodate eventually begins to feel normal.Idolatry does not always ask us to reject Jesus. It often asks us to make room beside Him. Jesus calls His people not merely to recognize compromise, but to repent.
