Episode Description from the Publisher

Good morning, and welcome back. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today for Mindful Eating: Daily Guides to Conscious Nutrition. Whether you're settling in with your first cup of coffee or sneaking a few quiet moments before the day really takes off, I want you to know that showing up right now, in this moment, is exactly what matters. You know what I've noticed? This time of year, early May, when the seasons are shifting and everything feels a little uncertain, our relationship with food gets a bit chaotic too. Maybe you're eating on autopilot, rushing through meals, or reaching for snacks without really knowing why. That disconnect between what we're putting in our mouths and what we're actually feeling or needing? That's what we're going to gently untangle today. So let's start by settling in. Find a comfortable place where you won't be interrupted for the next few minutes. You don't need to sit in any fancy position. Feet on the floor, back supported, whatever feels good. Now, take three slow, intentional breaths with me. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Feel the air moving through your body like a gentle tide coming in and out. Good. Here's our practice for today, and I call it the sensory pause. Before your next meal or snack, I want you to stop for just thirty seconds. Really stop. Not just physically pause, but mentally arrive. Look at your food as if you're seeing it for the very first time. What colors do you notice? Is it vibrant, muted, warm, cool? Run your fingers along its texture if you can. Rough or smooth? Soft or firm? Bring it close and notice the aroma. Don't judge it, just observe it, the way you might notice the texture of tree bark on a walk through the forest. This tiny moment of sensory awareness is like turning up the volume on your body's wisdom. When we actually notice our food, our nervous system settles. Our digestion improves. And honestly, the food just tastes better. You're not changing what you eat; you're changing the relationship you have with it.So here's what I'd love for you to do today: choose one meal or snack and give it this sensory pause. Just one. Notice what shifts. Does it feel more satisfying? Does it help you understand what you actually wanted? There's no right answer. It's simply about reconnecting.Thank you so much for listening to Mindful Eating: Daily Guides to Conscious Nutrition.
