Welcome back, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, it's Friday morning, and I'm willing to bet that if you're like most of us, your week has been a whirlwind. Maybe you've been eating lunch at your desk, grabbing snacks without thinking, or that weird thing where you finish an entire meal and can't quite remember tasting it. Am I close? Today, we're going to slow down together and practice something I call the Five Senses Reset. It's my favorite way to reconnect with food and with yourself. So let's begin.Find yourself in a comfortable seat, somewhere you won't be interrupted for the next few minutes. Maybe it's your kitchen, maybe it's a quiet corner. Place your feet flat on the ground. Feel that connection. Now, take three deep breaths with me. Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth. Again. Feel your shoulders drop. One more. Good. Now, I want you to bring to mind something you're going to eat soon, maybe lunch, maybe a snack. Doesn't have to be fancy. An apple, a piece of cheese, a bowl of soup. Hold that thought. Before you take even one bite, let's engage your senses, one by one. First, sight. Really look at what you're about to eat. Notice the colors, the textures, the way light plays across it. Spend five full seconds just seeing it, like you're an artist studying your subject. Now, smell. Bring it close and breathe in. Don't rush this. What do you notice? Is it sharp, sweet, earthy? Let your nose tell you a story.Next, touch. Feel the temperature, the texture. Is it smooth or bumpy, warm or cool? Let your fingertips be curious. And then, finally, taste. Take one small bite. Before you chew, let it sit on your tongue for a moment. What flavors arrive first? What follows? Then, slowly chew, noticing how the flavors shift and evolve with each bite. This is mindful eating, and here's the magic: when we engage all five senses, we actually feel more satisfied with less food. We taste more. We enjoy more. We remember the experience. So here's what I'm inviting you to do today. Pick one meal or snack and do this five senses practice. Just one. You don't have to overhaul everything at once. Small shifts create real change.Thank you so much for joining me on Mindful Eating: Daily Guides to Conscious Nutrition.
