Inside the 2026 ITAD Summit with Darrell Fleming-Kendall

2,200 people, one industry, and a lot of opinions about where IT asset disposition goes next.Every year I walk the floor at the ITAD Summit and come home with a different read on where this industry is heading. This year felt different. Not louder or bigger for the sake of it. Just further along, like IT asset disposition finally knows what it wants to be when it grows up.If you spend your days moving used Dell servers, used Cisco networking equipment, and other refurbished enterprise IT off a data center floor, the ITAD Summit is basically your whole world under one roof. 2,200 people. 26 sessions. 87 speakers. And for the first time, most of what I heard on the floor was not about what one ITAD services company is doing on its own. It was about what the whole IT asset disposition industry is doing, together.That shift is exactly why I wanted Darrell Fleming-Kendall on the show right after the show. Darrell is the Executive Director of the Global ITAD Alliance and one of the people who actually builds the ITAD Summit every year. He has spent more than a decade in ITAD and e-waste recycling, and he was still coming down off the week in Vegas when we recorded this.Key TakeawaysThe ITAD industry spent this year's summit questioning its own name, debating whether a term like end of life still captures everything IT asset disposition and refurbished enterprise IT actually cover today.AI showed up in every one of the 26 sessions at this year's summit, a sharp jump from a handful of mentions the year before, and it now touches everything from data erasure to critical minerals policy.Only about 22 percent of electronic devices currently get put back into the resale stream, which means the AI driven data center buildout is opening real room for growth in data center hardware resale.Live selling is moving into ITAD services the same way it already reshaped ecommerce in China, and Darrell expects it to become a real channel for moving medium value equipment.Keeping critical minerals processing inside the United States will take real investment and regulatory support, and Darrell says the five year timeline everyone quotes only starts once someone actually decides to act.Darrell Fleming-Kendall said, "We're at an inflection point in the industry.
