Leo Cheng didn't set out to become a Passivhaus enthusiast and building science expert, but when he lost his Altadena home to the Eaton Fire in LA, Passivhaus sort of found him. While organizing the rebuild of his home, Leo co-founded the grassroots community awareness organization ResilientHAUS with fellow total loss survivor Jaime Rodriguez to spread the word about Passivhaus principles and how they can help people rebuild more resiliently. In this episode, we talk about the loss of identity that comes with losing a home, the strength of community in getting through trauma, the importance of taking the time to really think through what you're doing when starting a build with a blank slate, and so much more.Connect with Leo and ResilientHAUS: Leo on LinkedIn => https://www.linkedin.com/in/leoycheng/ResilientHAUS on Instagram => https://www.instagram.com/resilienthausResilientHAUS on YouTube => https://www.youtube.com/@resilienthausResilientHAUS website => https://resilient.haus/
David Coon has been a devotee and champion of the Passive House movement since its early beginnings—in Canada—with the "Ark for Prince Edward Island," which opened 50 years ago this Fall, and Harold Orr's Saskatchewan Conservation House, built the year after that. David is a four-time elected member of the Legislative Assembly, representing Fredericton-Lincoln, and the current (as of October 2026) leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick. In this episode, we talked about the particular geopolitical environment that led to those pioneering homes, the journey the movement has taken since, where and why we're falling short of what seemed a promising low-energy-demand future, and what David has observed in his decade-plus spent as a sitting member of the New Brunswick Legislature.Connect with David and The Green Party of New Brunswick: David on LinkedIn => https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-coon-49362471/David on Facebook => https://www.facebook.com/DavidCoonNBDavid on Instagram => https://www.instagram.com/davidccoonDavid's Green Party Caucus page => https://greencaucusvert.ca/david-coon-fredericton-lincoln/The Green Party of New Brunswick on Facebook => https://www.facebook.com/GPNB.PVNBThe Green Party of New Brunswick on Instagram => https://www.instagram.com/greennbvert/The Green Party of New Brunswick website => https://www.greenpartynb.ca/The Ark for Prince Edward Island => https://peiark.com/Saskatchewan Conservation House => https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatchewan_Conservation_House
