Keshe Chow is a veterinarian in Australia who specializes in feline medicine. She just also happens to be a best-selling author. While her first books were geared toward a young adult audience her latest, “Strange Familiars”, is a “romantasy” about rival students of magical veterinary science. Keshe draws on her own experience as a real- world vet to inspire elements of “Strange Familiars”. Her own story, of going from being a child with no pets to her 7+ year journey to become a vet, is fascinating in and of itself and her new book is sure to intrigue and entertain while also offering insights to issues that face our world today. You can find her book wherever books are sold—in stores and online. Catherine Violet Hubbard was a joyful, loving child who adored animals and all living creatures. And most of all, she wanted them to know that she was kind. When Catherine lost her life during the Sandy Hook tragedy of 2012, people donated to a local animal shelter in her memory and eventually the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation was born. Their mission is to teach kindness and empathy, while helping animals find homes and making the planet more friendly for all living creatures. June 6th is Catherine’s birthday and the date of the 10th Annual Butterfly Party. During this event there will be rescue groups and other advocates on site, and animals will be available for adoption. Learn more about this event, how rescues across the nation will be honored, and about some of the many awards CVH Foundation has received for their messaging and their methods. Visit www.cvhfoundation.org where you can also find opportunities for donations and volunteering. This is a very worthy organization and if you have not yet heard of it, you will want to!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This past week (late April/early May 2026) we’ve seen numerous stories about sloths that were lost during what was supposed to be preparation for a new exhibit/destination in Florida called Sloth World. It came to light that many of the sloths died due to a combination of poor travel conditions, failure to keep a proper climate in their holding areas, and digestive upsets. This exhibit will now NOT be opening due to what has happened, and Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens is currently working ‘round the clock to save the remaining sloths. I want to encourage anyone who has a heart for these precious, magical little animals to visit one of the three websites shown here and learn more and even to donate if you are so inclined: www.slothconservation.org www.jaguarrescue.foundation www.centralfloridazoo.org Everything helps. Let’s support those helping our wildlife, and let’s also work to educate more people about the specific challenges some of these species are facing. Thank you!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
We are pleased to welcome returning guest Mari Maeda, who has been a scientific researcher for many years. If you or anyone you know has a dog with cancer and is not sure what options might be available outside of the more traditional treatments, please visit their website where you’ll learn more. www.caninecanceralliance.org They also have a special event coming up at Marymoor Park this COMING Sunday, May 3, 2026, with registration at 9 am and the event beginning at 10. You can also register online. If you are seeing this after that date you can still go to the website and find out how things went—AND learn how you can still contribute in other ways such as donating or volunteering.
