ESPN Just RIPPED BYU, Big 12 For... Not Winning Playoff Games? You Won't Let Us In?

For elite programs like BYU and the broader vanguard of the Big 12, the College Football Playoff selection committee's traditional polling behavior has long felt like an institutional bias designed to protect legacy brands at the expense of proven, battle-tested resumes.Every single autumn, teams operating outside the traditional coastal zip codes are forced to navigate an absolute gauntlet of physical attrition, week-in and week-out trench warfare, and grueling road environments. Yet, when the Tuesday night playoff rankings drop, human voters and committee insiders routinely penalize Big 12 powerhouses for the very parity that makes their conference the most competitive in the country. A single hard-fought loss in a hostile stadium—against a conference opponent that would dismantle mid-tier teams in softer leagues—is magnified under a microscope, while brand-name programs with identical or weaker records get a free pass based on preseason hype. This persistent undervaluing ignores the analytical models and metrics that consistently prove the depth, roster maturity, and efficiency of teams like the Cougars. Instead of rewarding programs that survive a weekly bloodbath, the committee relies on lazy narrative-driven polling that prioritizes historical blue-blood status over actual on-field execution and strength of schedule.Until the selection process completely divorces itself from corporate brand preference and fully embraces objective metrics, elite Big 12 contenders will continue to fight an uphill battle just to get the national respect their hard-earned resumes demand.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!KALSHIFor a limited time, Download Kalshi and use code Locked On to get $25 when you trade $25. Kalshi.
