This is our newest installment of our Guerrilla History series previewing and analyzing the major international football (soccer) tournaments on and off the pitch. This time, with the disastrous US/Canada/Mexico hosted World Cup 2026. Amid war on Iran, anti-immigrant ICE terror gangs, dismal initial attendance numbers and astronomical costs, this world cup looks to be one of the worst in history. No wonder there have been calls to boycott it and the US. A terrific global panel joins Guerrilla History hosts Adnan and Henry to discuss the geopolitics of the once beautiful game and review the myriad ways this world cup violates the spirit of sport. Gazan journalist Abubaker Abed , Resistance is Fertile podcast co-host Indi.ca, and returning panelist and great friend of both Guerrilla History and the Adnan Husain Show Latin American historian Alex Aviña will break this down. The following is an episode from our sister podcast, The Adnan Husain Show: Helyeh Doutaghi from Tehran and Bikrum Gill join me to discuss the haunting and powerful series "Still Minab" and its first two episodes. Helyeh's documentary absorbs the first part of our discussion about narrating and expressing the truth outside of the colonial and imperial framework. Then Adnan and Bikrum reflect on the wider significance of Iran's defiant position against the imperialist world system, revolutionary Shi'i theology and Islam as a vanguard of anti-imperialist resistance, and the fundamental question of sovereignty. We look forward to another episode soon with stable internet to further develop the themes of the scholarly article Helyeh and Bikrum are writing for Middle East Critique on these issues of Iran's place in anti-imperialist resistance history, theory and practice. In this fascinating episode of Guerrilla History, we are joined by researcher and academic Lucia Hubinska to provide a (2 hour) introduction to the topic of Propaganda. Additionally, for those of you who may have questions related to propaganda, listen to the full episode and you'll hear how to get those questions in for the next time we have Lucia on. Referenced towards the end of this episode was our friend Stuart Davis's article What is Netflix imperialism?, which we also discussed in our episode with Stuart and Greg Shupak Media Narratives & Hegemonic Discourses, so be sure to check those out as well, both the article and the discussion are fascinating! In this episode of Guerrilla History, we bring back our friend and comrade, Sarah Jilani (whom you will remember from our episode Subjectivity and Decolonization in the Post-Independence Novel and Film) to discuss one of our favorite topics - Fanon. Specifically here, we are talking about two articles that Sarah wrote, the first being Fanon's psycho-politics of decolonisation, a fascinating scholarly article that came out in the Review of African Political Economy (ROAPE). We then talk about a ROAPE blog piece that Sarah cowrote titled Fanon, Gaza and the anxieties of empire which was a response to members of the British government and diplomatic corps denigrating Fanon and even calling out Sarah by name in doing so. A really fascinating discussion, and the articles are really great too so be sure to check them out! Sarah Jilani is a Lecturer in English at City, University of London. She is the author of several articles on postcolonial literatures and film that have appeared in Textual Practice, Interventions, and Journal of Commonwealth Literature, amongst others, and a widely published culture journalist. In this episode of Guerrilla History, we have a critically important discussion that we hope you will find useful and will share with others that you think may benefit. Here we bring on Nina Farnia and Navid Farnia to discuss the ongoing war on Iran. The situation continues to develop rapidly, but the analysis provided here is absolutely crucial to continuing to deepen our understanding of what is happening as well as WHY is is happening the way it is. Be sure to check out the piece that they did for Pambazuka which we reference several times throughout the conversation - Iran v. US Imperialism: An Interview with Navid Farnia & Nina Farnia. We also recommend you check out the previous episode that Nina did with us Lawfare and Imperialism. Nina Farnia is a legal historian, focusing on the role of modern imperialism in U.S. law and politics. Her forthcoming book Imperialism and Resistance will be coming out next year from Stanford University Press, so stay tuned for that! His research broadly explores the relationship between racial oppression in the United States and U.S. imperialism with a focus on revolutionary movements and counterrevolutionary responses. Navid's book manuscript, National Liberation in an Imperialist World: Race, Counterrevolution, and the United States, traces the U.S. national security state's evolution by examining how U.S. officials responded to national liberation movements at home and abroad from the 1950s to 1980.
