What’s in the bag today? Velvet Spritz—with a Z—from Grassroots. This indica-leaning hybrid crosses Romulan Grapefruit with Kush Mints. The flower came as smaller popcorn buds and was a little dry, but it still had some give and smoked surprisingly well. Its aroma starts subtly sweet before becoming much more earthy, musky, and slightly piney in the vaporizer. If you’re expecting a mouthful of grapefruit candy, calm down. That isn’t what we found in this batch. The dominant terpenes include beta-caryophyllene, alpha-pinene, myrcene, limonene, and beta-pinene. Together, they produced an unusual combination of calm and focus. Velvet Spritz didn’t make us sleepy or completely relax the body. Instead, it quieted some of the mental noise and made it easier to stay present with whatever we were doing. We get into:Velvet Spritz’s Romulan Grapefruit × Kush Mints lineageWhy packaging can make or break otherwise good flowerSweet grapefruit expectations versus its earthy, musky realityReading terpene results when the label is organized like complete bullshitGradually increasing vaporizer temperaturesWhy the same flower can feel different in a joint and vaporizerCleaning your glass before the bong water develops its own ecosystemWhether juice belongs in a bong—and why we’re skepticalUsing Velvet Spritz for yard work, reading, or focused activitiesThe calm, happy feeling without becoming overly dopeyWhy alpha-pinene may feel tense or stimulating for some consumersCombining strains to shape the experienceCannabis as an amplifier of your mindset and environmentLongboards, motorcycles, handmade teapots, and the usual side questsOur verdict: Velvet Spritz is a solid daytime strain for somebody looking to calm the squirrels without putting them to sleep. It felt focused, thoughtful, and pleasantly elevated, although the pinene created some head and neck tension for us. In a joint, that tension was less noticeable and the overall experience felt better. This may also be a useful base strain to combine with something more physically relaxing.
