Coach opens with Buffalo's home debut, and Supi's line is the one that sticks: the stamp Josh Allen put on it "put a hole in the earth." Allen went for 248 through the air and 69 on the ground with five total touchdowns as the Bills beat Detroit 41-31 in the new building.1 The three of them are less kind to Dan Campbell, who never seriously looked at a field goal while chasing points, and to a Lions offense that leaned away from Jahmyr Gibbs — 16 carries, 52 rushing yards — when he is plainly their best weapon. Mikey P's argument is that Buffalo shows the alternative: James Cook went for 135 on the ground and 21 carries1, takes pressure off everything else, and never once asks for the ball in public. Coach's read on Allen is that he has heard every word of the "can he get it done" noise and has decided to answer it himself. The best-bets board runs long. On the college side Mikey P likes SMU on the money line at Louisville behind Kevin Jennings and Mississippi State to cover at South Carolina; Coach is on the SMU–Louisville over at 58; Supi takes North Carolina at Clemson in Bill Belichick's second year and USC on the road at Rutgers — after calling them UNC twice, which the guys do not let go. In the NFL, Supi has the Panthers as a road favorite in Atlanta and the Giants to win outright in Los Angeles, Mikey P backs Cincinnati at Houston with Nico Collins ruled out2 and Baker Mayfield against his old team, and Coach takes the Vikings–Bears over at 48. Supi says Ole Miss will treat Saturday like a national championship game against the coach who left them; Mikey P won't let Lane Kiffin play the victim, pointing out that those same players went to the playoff without him and want to prove it.
