Episode Description from the Publisher

Eating disorders don’t exist in a vacuum—and for BIPOC individuals, feeling seen in treatment can be a powerful part of recovery. Finding a provider you trust is so important on your recovery journey. In this episode, we sit down with Mehak Merchant who is actively involved in the BIPOC groups offered to patients at Renfrew and a champion for culturally adapted care.   Mehak shares her story and how that has shaped her approach in therapy with BIPOC clients. Her passion for this work shines through her explanation of how systemic inequities, cultural narratives, and barriers to eating disorder care impact BIPOC clients. We explore how diet culture in healthcare impacts eating disorder recovery and how clients can advocate for their recovery. Mehak shares hope for BIPOC clients in finding support that is compassionate, validating, and community oriented.   If you or someone you know is struggling in recovery, this episode will instill hope and practical strategies to support your healing journey.   If you or someone you care about is an athlete in recovery, this episode will make your recovery journey a little more hopeful.   If you enjoy our show, please rate, review, subscribe, and tell your friends and colleagues!   Interested in being a guest on All Bodies.
