One of the easiest ways to create a little more hope is to put something good on the calendar. It doesn’t have to be a vacation, a concert, or an expensive night out, but it could be if that’s what you want to do. I’m thinking about going to see an NFL game. You do you, Maybe that’s coffee with a friend, or taking an afternoon off to read, or maybe it’s dinner at your favorite place. Part of the joy comes from the experience itself, but part of it comes from looking forward to it. In fact, heightened anticipation brings a surge of dopamine, the feel good chemical in our brains. No wonder it’s so much fun to plan something to look forward to. This is the time. Before today is over, schedule one thing you can look forward to. It could happen this week or later this month. It could involve other people, or it could be time you’re protecting just for yourself. Choose something that makes you smile when you think about it. Hope lives in the present, but sometimes it also looks like a small circle on the calendar reminding us that something good is on its way.
