Nobody’s perfect. We all make mistakes. But what about the things we’ve done that weren’t mistakes? The things we knew better than to do—and did anyway? There’s an old religious word for that, which most of us would rather avoid. But what if that word isn’t intended to condemn us? What if acknowledging what’s really wrong is actually the first step toward making things right?
Most of us were handed some kind of framework for faith as children. But then we grew up. Life became more complicated, our questions got bigger, and sometimes the answers we were given weren’t enough anymore. So what do you do when you’re not ready to give up on faith, but you’re not sure you can go back to what you once believed? Maybe it’s time to start again.
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, mysterious power, or “it” to be controlled; He is the personal and knowable Spirit of God. Jesus promised His followers that although He would physically leave them, He would not abandon them. He would send the Holy Spirit—the Helper, Advocate, Counselor, and Spirit of Truth—to remain with them and live within those who trust in Jesus. Because the Holy Spirit has a mind, a will, and emotions, believers can develop a genuine relationship with Him. He understands our thoughts, intercedes when we do not know how to pray, directs us according to God’s will, and can be grieved by how we live. Knowing and trusting the Holy Spirit enables us to experience God’s presence, guidance, comfort, power, and love in a personal and life-changing way.
Some of our worst decisions began with something that felt incredibly appealing. A relationship. An opportunity. A purchase. A desire. In the moment, it seemed right—maybe even irresistible. But why is it that the things with the strongest emotional pull can make it so difficult to see where they’re actually taking us? And how do we know when what feels like a green light should really make us stop and pay attention?

Jesus extended that same invitation when He said, “Follow me.” But He wasn’t simply offering better advice—He was inviting people into a different direction, a different future, and ultimately a different kind of life. The question isn’t whether you’re following someone. It’s whether they’re leading you where you truly want to go.
