Mike Beanan, the Laguna Beach MPA & the Bluebelt Coalition 20Sep26

Mike Beanan details the Bluebelt Coalition petition before the State Fish and Wildlife Commission to extend the CA Marine Protected Area to all of Laguna Beach's coastline. Mike reports on the success of Laguna's MPA, in place since 2012, of revitalizing the fish population and the balance that has been established between the sea urchins, their predators and the health of the entire ecosystem. The success of the MPA has lead to more varieties of big fish being available to comeercial and recreational fishermen outside of the protected area. The petition can be located at LagunaBluebelt.org.
