In the third episode of Calls Under Quarantine — a temporary podcast show to connect through and beyond music and isolation — we wanted to move across closed borders, and so we rang guitarist Petrit Ceku, in Zagreb, and singer Fatime Kosumi (ANDRRA), in Berlin. The pair of musicians share friendship and also more than just a passion for music: They both transform the eternal musical legacy of others — be it Bach, or Albanian grandmothers — into a language of the present. In this episode, we speak with them both about what isolation and longing have brought up to the surface, and what these mean in their music.
Who said that physical distancing meant full isolation? We’re here to bring us closer — through “Calls Under Quarantine.” This is an improvised podcast born out of the necessity to connect beyond walls. Because we know that this crisis may have brought you feelings of anxiety, fear of the uncertain, or anger about how it has affected your life, or the lives of your loved ones. Or Maybe, you’re actually handling this all really well. Either way, we want to be with you. This is a space of comfort, to bring us closer, and we don’t know where it will take us. Our tools are a recorder, a computer, and a phone — so let’s experiment together. In this episode, we speak about and through music and isolation with Dritëro Nikqii from Por-no; Nita Kaja and Drin Tashi, from Sytë, and two musicians known for their co-project Oborri, now working on individual albums, Tomor Kuçi and Arber Salihu. You can listen to this episode and upcoming ones on our website, www.kosovotwopointzero.com. And particularly because this is an experiment, please do send us through your comments, or any feedback, request or suggestion you may have! Stay safe and stay home.
