Raised in the Midwest, she studied Interior Design at the University of Illinois before spending years in Milan, London and Paris working as a fashion-industry makeup artist. She eventually settled in New York City. Camp says she repeatedly read the Bible in its entirety before writing her first book, approaching Scripture with the creative eye of an artist and the curiosity of someone determined to discover how ancient Biblical lessons might speak to contemporary readers. In On the Seventh Day God Rested, Camp draws unexpected parallels between Scripture and contemporary society. The Tower of Babel becomes an opportunity to consider modern communications and excessive cellphone use; Samson and Delilah opens a discussion about feminism; the Creation of Adam is connected with DNA; Daniel in the Lions' Den is compared with the world of Wall Street; and the temptation in the Garden of Eden is placed against a modern Middle Eastern backdrop. Camp describes the result as a way of making Biblical truths accessible to the Bible scholar, the spiritually curious and even the skeptic.
