The series of missteps from General Lewis Brereton, to Dick Sutherland all the way to MacArthur himself all lead down the road to disaster as the Japanese catch Mac's major defensive/offensive assets with their pants down. In one of the most humiliating performances by the American Army Air Corps in the entire war, the Japanese wipe out the vast majority of American air assets on the first day of the war.
