Evan Barker was born into a working class, union family in Kansas, and suffered from a rare lung disease, leading her to be an avid supporter of the Democrats, who she believed was the party that aimed to help people like her. As an adult, Evan worked for the party as a fundraiser and operative, only to become disenchanted after realizing the party had traded out working class people for identity politics and empty mantras. Evan is the author of Nothing Left: Confessions of a Democratic Operative. In this episode, Meghan Murphy speaks with her about how the party lost its way and what really happens behind the scenes in the elite world of politics. The Same Drugs is on X @thesamedrugs_.
