Luke Flowers: Book Illustrator

Welcome folks as we sit down to chat with illustrator-author Luke Flowers, who's illustrated over 60 children's books including the million-selling Moby Shinobi series, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: The Poetry of Mr. Rogers, and adaptations of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Labyrinth. Flowers describes growing up on a Colorado farm, discovering illustration as a viable career through local pro Ron Adair, and building his skills from early drawing trades to art school at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. He recounts breaking into publishing via SCBWI New York and a Scholastic postcard that sparked Moby Shinobi, plus using custom puppets at school events. Flowers discusses process, budgeting, consistency, doubts, burnout, COVID's impact, self-care, evolving styles, industry pressures including AI, and future goals in writing and directing.
