In this episode, Josh and Jack asked what happened to: a director, an actor, an actress, a movie and a genre. All of our selections left the pop culture mainstream pretty quickly and we here at The Longlist will attempt to find out why. We're here to get to the bottom of it. This is a little bit of a different episode, so enjoy. Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
The oft mentioned first installment of Longlist Jeopardy is finally here. Josh and Jack faced off to see who would be the victor in this epic battle. And they had some skin in the game as well: Whoever prevails will receive a "one for me" episode in the near future and have full creative control over its content. This was a lot of fun and something we'll surely do again. Hope you have fun listening. This one's all about the forgotten nautical masterpiece from the early 2000s. Jack and Josh muse about what could have been with this franchise that never was, discuss the fascinating career of Russell Crowe, and debate fictional captains. And they both deliver lists pertaining to the movie and lists related to the movie as well. At The Longlist, we support anyone who supports Master and Commander. It's been one year since Josh and Jack started The Longlist. We'd like to thank everyone who has participated, actively or passively, and thank everyone who has supported us in any way. For this episode, we've created a most prestigious fictional hall of fame to elect movies in various categories that we've discussed over this past year. There is no greater honor than being elected into this hallowed ground. Enjoy! Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
We're embarking on a larger project with this episode, attempting to tackle the genre of Science Fiction in movies. This is part 1 of that exercise with the sub topic of focusing on Post Apocalyptic and Dystopian movies. Josh and Jack are joined by their good friend, Jason Slavin, who has a strong background in this department. It's impossible to cover a genre completely, but we tried our best and had a blast. For our 50th episode Jack and Josh thought of something fun: they each brought a list, unknown to there counterpart, with 50 entries on said list. It was a lot of fun to record. The guys were laughing, predicting what would show up next on the list, and of course there is a plethora of reactions to some wild entries. We hope you enjoy! We're baring our soul on this podcast and revealing some big time resume gaps in our movie watching cannon. Jack and Josh are joined by their good friend, Adam Murray, and they each watched a big time movie that they'd never seen before to break it down on this weeks episode. It lead to a lot of fun conversations and this is definitely a topic we'll come back to. Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
Well, it's come to this. After Greta Gerwig's masterpiece has repeatedly and accidentally come up in several podcast episodes in recent months, Josh and Jack decided to break down the movie in full once and for all and move on. We did the same thing with Titanic earlier in the podcast feed. Josh's wife, Rebecca is back to help the guys out. Enjoy! Here at The Longlist, we celebrate movies and other pop culture through the storied art of rankings. There are no wrong answers. There are no bad opinions. And hot takes are always encouraged. We love movies and we love talking about them even more. Throughout each episode we’ll dissect a given topic, be it a director, actor, genre, studio, ore even just a single movie that we really want to deep dive. And the way we really break down each topic is through a series of rankings, usually in the form of a ”top five,” ranging from serious film criticism to whimsical anecdotes. And finally at the end of each episode, we have our main top five list, which we have deemed the short list. Come for the short list and stay for the long list. Nothing we say will ever be the end all be all. On the contrary, we hope it will encourage similar conversations with you and your friends. We have a lot of fun and we hope you will too.
