by Josh and Jack Muller
Here at The Longlist, we celebrate movies and other pop culture through the storied art of rankings. There are no wrong answers. There are no bad opinions. And hot takes are always encouraged. We love movies and we love talking about them even more. Throughout each episode we’ll dissect a given topic, be it a director, actor, genre, studio, or even just a single movie that we really want to deep dive. And the way we really break down each topic is through a series of rankings, usually in the form of a ”top five,” ranging from serious film criticism to whimsical anecdotes. And finally at the end of each episode, we have our main top five list, which we have deemed the short list. Come for the short list and stay for the long list. Nothing we say will ever be the end all be all. On the contrary, we hope it will encourage similar conversations with you and your friends. We have a lot of fun and we hope you will too.

With his new movie, The Odyssey, set to release Friday, we wanted to take the time to discuss arguably the most celebrated director working today. He is a master of his craft, dominates the box office, has been awarded at the highest level, and has turns his film releases into cultural events. Love him or hate him, it's tough to deny Christopher Nolan's impact on the film landscape. So Jack and I made some lists. We're talking sequels this week on The Longlist. And for the most part, we focused on true sequels to the original movie. Not part threes or later, and not movies that were planned for a franchise from the very beginning. We didn't totally adhere to these rules, but tried our best to keep that spirit in mind. There are lots of good and bad sequels out there, join us to see if some of your favorites made it. Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
Join us on a more personal journey as Josh and Jack share the movies they saw in the theaters together. There were some debates. There were some laughs. There were some lists. And it was a lot of fun. We, here at The Longlist, believe that the in theater experience is the best way to watch a movie. Seeing a great film with an engaged crowd is unlike anything else in entertainment. Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
Michael Bay's 1996 action hit, The Rock, just turned 30, making Josh and Jack feel pretty old. But it's a movie we love, here at The Longlist, and allows for a lot of fun lists. We also give our first reaction to Disclosure Day and have a couple surprises. Enjoy! Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
Another Wild Card episode for your listening pleasure. Josh and Jack each came up with 10 lists, unknown to their counterpart, and the only rule was that it had to involve movies in some way. It was a lot of fun to hang out and talk about some random things that we like. Some lists are crucial, some lists are weird, all lists are supremely Josh and/or Jack. Enjoy!
