This is often called retroactive jealousy. In this episode, I explain why infidelity can make retroactive jealousy worse, why betrayal trauma and retroactive jealousy are not the same thing, and why real healing requires separating what your partner actually did from the deeper insecurity that may have been there before the betrayal. Your partner may need to take accountability for cheating, lying, hiding, minimizing, or crossing boundaries. But they cannot take accountability for having a past before you.
