Maddie does her best Avatar impression and lava-bends disaster away from a hospital, Chimney, Harry, Ravi, Hen, and the rest of the 118 show up to rescue Athena from it, and Buck and Eddie’s situationship is getting Pompeii’d by Theo’s emotional support model volcano. Han, Cil, and Rachel are back with a special on the last two episodes of the 9-1-1 Season 10 opener, “Fire in the Hole” (10x02) and “Streets of Fire” (10x03). We talk about why it’s the best opening emergency since the tsunami and get emotional over Jennifer Love Hewitt and Elijah M. Cooper pulling our heartstrings with some of their best performances yet.New here or coming from our rewatch episodes? Current-season coverage has its own format: a weekly or bi-weekly reaction where we review the episode, highlight our three favorite moments for each character, and go all in on Buck and Eddie. The full deep dive comes later when we reach that season in a rewatch! So follow Eddie down the Lava Brick Road as we ask the important question, “Why does he feel like it’s his place to insert himself into Buck’s parenting?” Then brace yourself as we dig into the latest Buck and Eddie Divorce, where we break down what each of them says versus what the other one hears and why “you know where the door is” lands as an emotional stab wound for a man who just recovered from a real one. Plus, we trace seven seasons of parallels that prove this is the same fight Buck and Eddie have been having all along.Title inspired by “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash❤️🔥 Eddie Treats Buck Like They’re Married, Buck Treats Eddie Like They’re Exes – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more!Music by DIV!NITY Chapters Previously on 9-1-1… 10x02 “Fire in the Hole” Reactions 10x03 “Streets of Fire” Reactions We ❤️ When Things Go Boom! – Production Highlights Hen – Giving Harry the Space to Be There Athena – Serving Looks & Throwing Rocks Chimney – Hot, Competent & In Command 🔥 Maddie – Her Impossible Trolley Problem Harry – “Bravery Is Exhausting” May – Trial by Fire (and Lava) Ravi – Ravipedia & Heart Eyes 😍 Buck – Dad Mode Meets Divorce Eddie – “Sorry If I'm Overstepping…” Queer Eddiemaxxing The Buddie Volcano Has Erupted – Breaking Buddie News 🚨 The Confrontation: What Buck Means vs. What Eddie Hears The Buddie Divorce Cinematic Universe 8x17 Kitchen Fight Parallels Buddie & Destiel – The Art of Pushing Away the Person You Need Buddie Forecast 🌦️ Into the Looking Glass – Echoes Across Seasons What’s Next in Season 10 🔮 Our Wi$h Li$t Take a Buddie With You & Outro📔 Behind the Scenes & References From This Episode 📔🎬 Gas Station Explosion 🎬 Brainstorming the Practical Lava Effects 🎬 <a href="https://x.com/911ABCMEDIA/status/2113686453863743626?a=11-L549pgFX9p
“Without losing a piece of me, how do I get to heaven?Without changing a part of me, how do I get to heaven?”In this episode of The Buddie System, Han, Cil, and Rachel act as your fandom priests and perform a queer coding exorcism on Eddie Diaz’s Catholic Guilt™️ (as shown in the hit network television series entering its 10th season: 9-1-1). Our sermon breaks down his complete history with religion and faith and how it left him with religious trauma that makes him feel like something in him is broken. Eddie has spent his whole life looking for God in the wrong places, without realizing what’s been right in front of him: Buck, the one person he’s always had unwavering faith in.We grab our rosaries (aka baby’s first fidget toy) and dive into the “Old Testament”: the foundations of comp-het, peer-reviewed research on queer people raised in homophobic churches, the Hays Code’s history of veiling queerness in religious guilt, and why we think Tim Minear is purposefully referencing the Ancient Texts of Queer Coding through Eddie. Then we read The Gospel According to Eddie Diaz (aka The Eddie Scriptures), every example of faith, belief, or lack thereof from Season 2 through Season 9. We go from Eddie asking for a sign right before Shannon dies, the universe screaming at him, and Hot Priest’s Juice Bar Intervention, to Abuela’s sage advice on where to find God’s love, and a hospital chapel bearing witness to perhaps the most homoerotic stabbing on network TV since Supernatural.Next, we enter The Book of Acts, where faith is actually put into practice, and for Eddie that’s always been The Church of Buckley. In 9x18 Eddie tells God, “I’ve been trying to believe… you’re not making it real easy,” but per our scriptures, worshiping at the altar of Buck has always come naturally. Finally, in Revelation, or The Buddie System Scriptures, we talk about the future we’d like to see for Eddie and his relationship with religion: free of guilt and shame, drinking the juice, and hopefully rolling the stone away from his closet. This episode is dedicated to our TV dad, Tim Minear, for giving us enough crumbs to cater the last supper. Happy Birthday, hope you enjoy your present! 😂“All my time is wasted, feeling like my heart's mistaken, ohSo if I'm losing a piece of me, maybe I don't want heaven”Episode title inspired by “Heaven” by Troye Sivan❤️🔥 What We Want In An "Eddie Begins Again" Episode – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more!Music by DIV!NITY Chapters Welcome Back to the Eddie Queer Coding Series 🌈 Eddie's Catholic Guilt Exorcism – Setting the Stage A Brief History of Queer Coding & Subtext Eddie’s Catholic Guilt Begins Eddie Asks for a Sign and Gets a Ruined Miracle | 2x17 “I Wasn’t Enough” | 3x08 The Patron Saint of Travelers | 3x15 “I Don’t Worry About Things I Can’t Control” | 4x06 “I Didn’t Save Them” | 5x13-5x14 “God Has Spoken” | 5x16 Confused About the Definition of Belief | 6x07 The Manchurian Catholic | 7x05 “I’m Broken and I Can’t Fix It” | 7x09 An Exercise in Faith, A Thought Journey “I Don’t Deserve Forgiveness, or Joy” | 8x06</
Eddie goes swimming in a sinkhole, Nacho Libre and Theo land Buck in the ER, and 9-1-1 is back with its Season 10 premiere, “That Sinking Feeling.” Han, Cil, and Rachel are here to talk about everything that worked to make this a much-deserved celebration of a rarely reached milestone in television. Maddie and Athena are putting puzzle pieces together while Chimney, Hen, Ravi, Harry, and the rest of the 118 end the episode diving under the engine for cover from the erupting volcano. Gotta love a Thursday!New here or coming from our rewatch episodes? Current-season coverage has its own format: a weekly or bi-weekly reaction where we review the episode, dismantle a fandom take or two we disagree with, highlight our three favorite moments for each character, and go all in on Buck and Eddie. The full deep dive comes later when we reach that season in a rewatch! So, get ready to take a peek at Eddie’s psyche as we talk about why he’s so good at exercising restraint, and why he shouldn’t really be proud of that. Then follow us as we break down Buck and Eddie getting mistaken for a couple… again, and why the only non-work related scenes in the season premiere focusing on the Buckley-Diaz family dynamics are a pretty big deal! And pretty gay, let’s be real. “And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences, sit with you in the trenches, give you my wild, give you a child”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel hold onto their sanity by a thread as they discuss Season 4 Episode 14 of 9-1-1, “Survivors,” where a sniper shoots Eddie in the middle of an L.A. street and Buck drags him to safety. We break down why this is our favorite season finale of the series (so far) and why most of that is, unsurprisingly, the Buddie of it all. This episode will (lol) always be famous for the scene where we find out Eddie left Christopher, his heart and soul, under Buck’s guardianship if anything ever happens to Eddie. We explore the chink in Bobby and Athena’s relationship armor, Hen and Karen’s bittersweet reunion with Nia, and Maddie asking Chimney for help. The theme of “survivors” echoes through the episode, from Bobby opening up about almost losing Athena to Athena literally walking through fire to save Bobby. While the Wilsons’ moment with Nia and her mother provides some closure and healing, we point out that the Bobby and Athena talk just puts a pin in a corkboard of conversations that never get unpinned, and that Maddie telling Chimney she’s not okay, mentally, is a huge first step, but ends up effectively being a band-aid on a nicked artery.Buck’s trajectory this episode goes from frozen in shock to rabid guard dog to distraught mother hen to passive suicidal ideation on the crane and in Eddie’s hospital room. Eddie’s goes from reaching for Buck, to asking Buck if he’s hurt, to passing out, to waking up and hearing Buck say it should have been him who was shot, to telling Buck he’s not expendable by sharing a secret he’s been keeping for a year. And we unpack all of that and then some! Why is Eddie leaving Christopher to Buck in his will romantic? We have answers. Why is the entire opening sequence so couple-coded? We have Meredith and Derek, Castle and Beckett, Booth and Brennan, and Dean and Cas to demonstrate. Also, get ready for some show-stopping Buddie and Bathena parallels — they do not play about their partners. If we sound too giddy about Eddie getting shot, it’s only because Buck tastes Eddie’s blood before his lips and everything that follows is just incredibly… gay.“All these people think love's for show, but I would die for you in secret. The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me. Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?”Episode title inspired by “peace” by Taylor Swift❤️🔥 What If There Was a Feelings Realization in Season 4? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔📰 Death, drama, and dust: 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star creator on both shows' tense season finales, by Ruth Kinane for Entertainment Weekly📰 '9-1-1' Boss on Athena's Heroics, Buck Being Buck and More in the Season 4 Finale, by Meredith Jacobs for TV Insider📰 9-1-1 Finale: EP Talks Eddie's Fate, Maddie's Journey And A 'Major Complication' Coming In Season 5, by Andy Swift for TV Line📰 '9-1-1' Star Oliver Stark on Eddie's Fate and Buck's Big Christopher News, by Jennifer Maas for The Wrap📰 9-1-1 star Oliver Stark breaks down Eddie's shocking news and what happens to Buck next, by Rebecca Lewis for Hello Magazine📰 9-1-1 & Lone Star: Tim Minear on the Emotional Season Finales | Observer, by Max Gao for Observer📰 '9-1-1's Peter Krause on O

“The price of your greed is your son and your daughterWhat you gon' do when there's blood in the water?”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel trust no bitch as we side-eye Season 4 Episode 13 of 9-1-1, "Suspicion," the penultimate episode of the season and the setup for one of the show's most notorious cliffhangers. Everyone has something to squint suspiciously at in this episode: Hen goes head to head with a dismissive ER doctor to save her mom Toni, Maddie insists she's fine while Chimney takes her at her word, Athena goes full detective mode on Bobby, and Eddie follows his gut about a single mom poisoning her son straight into the wrong end of a sniper scope. We dig into Hen's storyline and how the medical system fails Black women, and women and people of color more broadly, and celebrate Hen rounding up her med school study group to advocate for her mother's health when no one else will in a very House MD montage. We sort through Bobby's avoidance and lying to Athena and unpack the tit for tat in Bobby and Athena's marriage underneath it all. We also talk about how devastatingly well the show sets up Maddie's postpartum arc, and how a rewatch really twists the knife with Chimney unknowingly saying the worst possible thing. From there, we sit down with Carla to clock Eddie and his feelings (or lack thereof) for Ana: "nice and easy" is not how anyone should describe their girlfriend. We have a genuine question for the general audience (if you know any please ask them for us) about what exactly they think is happening here. We follow Rachel's thought journey and chat about Sheila and Charlie as a warped mirror of Eddie and Christopher, and lay out our theory that the universe is punishing Eddie for everything he refuses to look at.Bobby and Athena apparently can't have a fight without Buck and Eddie inheriting the script, so we trace their kitchen argument line for line to 7x09 and 8x17. And when Sheila laments that a single mom has nobody to pull her out after she falls through a balcony, we can't help noticing that Eddie has someone who always shows up to try, because all roads lead to Buddie, after all.“Beg me for mercy, admit you were toxicYou poisoned me just for another dollar in your pocket”Episode title inspired by “Blood // Water” by grandson❤️🔥 Who Is The “Bridezilla” of The Buddie Wedding? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔📰 '9-1-1's Peter Krause on Obstacles in Bobby & Athena's Marriage, Plus Is [Spoiler] Dead?, by Meredith Jacobs for TV Insider📰 9-1-1's Peter Krause Talks Bobby And Athena's Big Fight, Says Cast Was 'Speechless' Over That Final Shot - TVLine, by Andy Swift for TV Line📰 '911' Renewed For Season 5 At Fox — 'Lone Star' Returning Midseason, by Andy Swift for TV LineWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more!Music by DIV!NITY
“What died didn't stay dead, you're alive, you're alive in my head”Our 9-1-1 Season 9 wrap up is here, and with Season 10 about to erupt, Han, Cil, and Rachel are taking one last space walk through the season of perpetual grief before it's laid to rest (at least until our rewatch). This week we give three rounds of applause and all the props to what might be the strongest season-wide writing this show has ever pulled off (perhaps some of the best storytelling we've seen on TV, period). Then we step onto our soapbox about 9-1-1 finales, which somehow turns into a thesis on what Supernatural taught us about cliffhangers (and how we'd love more on 9-1-1).Athena, Harry, Maddie, Chimney, Buck, Eddie, Hen, May, and Ravi get handed some very scientific superlatives, followed by a Buddie System style full-season arc breakdown from the space launch all the way to the hospital lockdown, before we get to the part you're really here for.Buck-le up for a Glee-inspired "that's what you missed on Buddie" in our Season 9 Buddie Breakdown. Buck still hasn't realized his feelings and Eddie hasn't even realized he's gay, but between Buck being jealous over Hen and Eddie's friendship, the tension at the Nashville Firefighter Games, and a face cradle in New Mexico that should be studied by queer coding scholars, we still had a veritable Buddie feast. We also crown our favorite episodes and moments including a certain road-trip montage set to a Kansas song that finally healed the Supernatural trauma it used to hold for us, and we will not be apologizing for how many times we've rewatched Eddie bleeding out. Then we hop into the confessional booth to talk about our new fears from this season, including a game of tug of war we will simply never recover from. We nerd out over the production side too, from the neon lighting and a split diopter shot that made us feral in 9x13, Mother's Boy, to how an airing schedule with more starts and stops than Buck's love life shaped our viewing experience. Finally, to wrap up the wrap, we dig up our old wish lists and break down which ones the writers granted (a surprising number of unhinged demands, child acquisition included).“If I didn't know better I'd think you were still aroundI know better, but I still feel you all around”Episode title inspired by “Marjorie” by Taylor Swift🫂 What Would We Change About Season 9? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more!Music by DIV!NITY Chapters Previously on 9-1-1 Season 9… 🚨 Season 9: The Season of Perpetual Grief™ 9-1-1 Finales Are…Fine Season 9 Superlatives – Most Likely to… Hen – Chronic Illness and Identity Crisis Can’t Keep Her Down Chimney – Captain Commitment Issues to Captain Confidence Maddie – Plot Twist: She’s the Boss Now Ravi – Bitchless to Disney Simp: A Love Story May – Finding Her Own Way to the Family Business Harry – Growing Up Grant, One Fire at a Time Athena – From Floating Away to Finding Her Way Forward Buck – Learning He Doesn’t Have to Do It Alone…Just in Time for Theo Eddie – Looking for the Light, Becoming It Instead Here’s What You Missed on Buddie – Season 9 Unhinged Edition The Episodes That Owned Our Hearts Season 9 Hall of F
“I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel get out our magnifying glasses and try to find the character work in Season 4 Episode 12 of 9-1-1, “Treasure Hunt.” Spoiler alert: there isn’t much. We discuss how everyone except Buck is pretending that they’re too smart to go looking for hidden treasure, and what led them all to be at the scene of the crime at the end anyway. Eddie’s playing not-so-third-wheel to Taylor, Hen and Chimney are coasting on Karen’s coding skills, Ravi’s in it solo for the love of the game, and then we have Bobby and Athena, dancing around a fight that’s been simmering their entire relationship. We dive into our thoughts on the episode (a fun romp without much substance) and how we would have improved on the latter. Then strap in, because the running theme of this episode is us slowly descending into madness, trying once again to connect the dots on why Buck and Eddie’s love interests are more underwhelming than an empty treasure chest. Some light armchair psychology pops out when we examine Buck’s relentless need to be wanted and how we’re very, very tired of him not loving himself anyway. Then for a Buddie System happy ending we talk about how easy Buck and Eddie are for each other, and how at the end of the day, they really just wanted to do it with their best friend… the treasure hunt that is. Ahem.“I'm looking for a partner, someone who gets things fixedAsk yourself this question: Do you want to be rich?”Episode title inspired by “Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)” by Pet Shop Boys📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Taylor Kelly Clocking Buddie – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more!Music by DIV!NITY Chapters Previously on 9-1-1… 🚨 Welcome to Dispatch 4x12 “Treasure Hunt” Review Jaws of Life – Production Deep Dive Narrative Echoes – Parallels, Callbacks, and Foreshadowing Flashover – Episode Themes Athena & Bobby – $5 Million Worth of Unresolved Issues Everyone On The Hunt – Dangerous, Reckless, Stupid… We’re In!
