Fave 5 New Defenders for 2026

On this edition of the Morning Drop, host Ike Jones returns to his summer series breaking down the Auburn Tigers' roster for the 2026 season. After diving into his favorite returning defenders last week, Ike turns his attention to the newcomers. In a system under defensive coordinator DJ Durkin that heavily rotates players and leaves defensive backs on an island, finding guys who bring the right SEC-level frame, coverage skills, and interior pass rush is everything. Tune in as Ike evaluates the PFF analytics, transfer history, and film expectations for the five new faces he is most intrigued by: Walter Mathis Jr. (Defensive Lineman): Coming over from LSU, this 285-pound sophomore has the SEC pedigree to become a rock-solid rotational piece against the run. Da'Shawn Womack (Rush End): A 6'5", 265-pound former Ole Miss and LSU edge piece counted on to improve Auburn's lackluster third-and-long pressure rates. Kamari Todd (Cornerback): A highly competitive, physical boundary defender transferring from Chattanooga who can carve out a real path to playing time in the rotation and on special teams. Andre Jordan Jr. (Cornerback): A well-traveled veteran with over 1,100 Power 4 snaps under his belt between LSU and Oregon State, brought in to step directly into the top four corner rotation as a perimeter cover guy. Cody Sigler (Defensive Tackle): A 302-pound disruptive force out of Arkansas State who flashed serious interior pass-rushing capabilities and pocket-collapsing havoc during spring practice.
