Jannik Sinner Ends Season, Alcaraz & Djokovic take home Tokyo and Beijing Titles

Jannik Sinner is OUT for the rest of the season, Carlos Alcaraz defends his Tokyo crown and Novak Djokovic moves to 102 tour-level titles! Join Joel, Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as we get stuck into a huge week in tennis, starting with the bombshell news that Sinner’s ongoing knee injury has ended his 2026 season. How do we assess his year ending with a 44-3 record and the fact this means Alexander Zverev will be the end of season World No. 1 despite being 2-9 against Top 10 players this year.We also celebrate Alcaraz’s 27th title in Tokyo and ask whether Sinner’s absence gives him a golden opportunity to finally conquer the ATP Finals, Shanghai, Paris or all three. Plus, Djokovic lifted his seventh Beijing title for his 102nd career trophy, while Daniil Medvedev was dramatically defaulted after accidentally hitting a spectator. We also debate the WTA’s announcement of equal prize money at all combined 1000 events from 2027, especially given the tour’s financial struggles. Is this an important step forward or a risky move? Plus, we say farewell to Kei Nishikori and preview the Shanghai Masters.SUBSCRIBESign-up to Tennis Weekly: Ad-free + Extras to listen to ad-free episodes, enjoy monthly bonus podcasts, behind the scenes tournament content, member only quiz episodes and listener Q&A podcasts.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
