Episode Description from the Publisher

Good morning, this is San Diego Local Pulse for Sunday, May third. We're waking up to mostly clear skies this morning with temperatures around forty-one degrees in our inland valleys. Expect partly cloudy conditions throughout the day with highs reaching into the upper sixties, so it's a great day to get outside and enjoy some San Diego sunshine before things turn cooler tomorrow.Speaking of getting outside, we've got some fantastic events happening around town today. The Fiesta Old Town celebration continues with its second day of Cinco de Mayo festivities running from eleven in the morning until six in the evening along San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street in Old Town. You'll find live music on the main stage, pioneer games and activities for the kids, and some exciting lucha libre matches. If you're looking for something a bit different, the FoodieLand Food Festival is happening at the Del Mar Fairgrounds from one to ten tonight, featuring over two hundred vendors with global flavors and live entertainment. And for the theater crowd, Riverdance is performing at the San Diego Civic Theatre at one o'clock this afternoon if you're interested in catching that show.On the sports front, the Chicago White Sox are taking on the San Diego Padres at Petco Park this afternoon starting at one ten. The game will be broadcast on MLB Network, so our listeners can tune in to see how our boys are doing this season. Now let's talk about some national developments affecting our region. Spirit Airlines, the budget carrier known for its bright yellow planes, announced it's shutting down after thirty years of operation. The airline couldn't secure a federal bailout, leaving travelers scrambling to find alternative flights. If you've got upcoming trips, we recommend checking with other carriers immediately. We're also monitoring rising gas prices affecting our state. Reports indicate prices have surged to as high as eight dollars a gallon in some parts of California, so those of us heading out for weekend drives might want to budget accordingly. On the local scene, we continue to track public safety developments throughout San Diego County as our law enforcement partners work to keep our communities safe. We'll keep you posted on any significant updates as they develop.Looking ahead, the Rock and Roll Health and Fitness Expo is coming to the San Diego Convention Center on May twenty-ninth through May thirty-first, so if you're interested in health and wellness activities, mark those dates on your calendar. This has been San Diego Local Pulse. We'll see you tomorrow with more local updates. Thanks so much for tuning in and please subscribe to stay connected with everything happening here in our beautiful city.
