They explore season three’s tonal shift to a darker, less-controlled world for Michael, shaped in part by looming Writer’s Guild strike uncertainty and network concerns about bleakness. Hoffman shares casting memories (notably William Fichtner as Mahone), the use of fake audition sides to avoid spoilers, limited writer-on-set practices, and lessons from producer Karen Usher.
