Today, Larry goes one-on-one with Parx Racing track announcer Jessica Paquette ahead of today’s one million dollar Grade one Pennsylvania Derby. Jessica, who became the voice of racing at Parx in December of twenty twenty-two, previews the Pennsylvania Derby field and discusses the potential Breeders’ Cup implications surrounding the race. She also looks at Further Ado, who captured the Blue Grass Stakes by eleven lengths earlier this season, and previews the one million dollar Cotillion Stakes on today’s card. Jessica also discusses her handicapping approach, how she became involved in horse racing, the process that led to her being hired at Parx, the people who helped her develop as a race caller, and her previous work as Director of Communications for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. Also today, Woodbine Thoroughbred trainer Ron Sadler joins Ponies 24-7 for the first time. Training since nineteen eighty-six, Sadler has saddled the winners of nearly six million dollars in purses and has worked with horses including Ron’s Gizmo, Lynessa, Souped Up and Arden Belle. Ron discusses the path that led him to becoming a trainer at Woodbine, the mentors and fellow horsemen who influenced his approach, and some of the top performers he has trained throughout his career. He also previews eight-year-old War Court’s appearance in today’s one hundred seventy-five thousand dollar Grade three Durham Cup, discusses the veteran’s return following an extended layoff, and reflects on a twenty twenty-six Woodbine season that has seen his stable winning at a seventeen percent rate. Then, award-winning author and Ajax Downs handicapper Jennifer Morrison returns to Ponies 24-7 to discuss the many different roles she continues to hold within the horse racing industry. Jennifer talks about her work handicapping Quarter Horse racing at Ajax Downs, how she made the transition from analyzing Thoroughbreds, and some of the differences involved in evaluating the two breeds. She also discusses the Ajax Downs meet, her role handling press releases for the track, and her work as an author, including the story of Mighty Heart.
