Sam is joined by Eric King, an anarchist writer, antifascist organizer, and former federal prisoner whose new memoir, A Clean Hell: Anarchy and Abolition in America’s Most Notorious Dungeon, offers a firsthand account of incarceration inside some of the most restrictive prisons in the United States, including ADX Florence, Alcatraz of the rockies, the federal supermax sometimes described as the most secure prison in the world. Eric, like many, was further radicalized during the Ferguson Rebellion in 2014, and since that time has devoted his life to abolitionism. On this week’s episode Sam and Eric talk life inside, and how the relationships we build across prison walls serve as a lifeline for those the State is trying to make disappear. How does prisoner support work, do you have any excuse not to be doing it? How does the disposability culture peddled by prison wardens show up in our social movements and communities? How do we win? All this in more in this week’s Party Girls. Want to get started doing prisoner support? Jamie and guest cohost Tony Boswell look back on the life of Ben Morea, a towering yet humble figure on the anarchist left. From his days of causing trouble with Black Mask and Up Against The Wall Motherfucker in the late 1960s, to decades spent living underground in the American southwest, to his return to New York in the post-2000 era, his contributions will not soon be forgotten. The second half is a classic Tony and Jamie messaround, with such important news items as: Luigi Mangione legal fund hits $1.5 million, United Healthcare drops pre-authorization requirements by 30%, Chris Smalls gets arrested for protesting at the Met Gala, and a secret service agent gets arrested for jerking off in a hotel hallway. The Iranian regime has mobilized the language of “anti-imperialism” in an effort to crush leftist movements, as well as worker and student struggles for decades now. Dr. Arya Zahedi joins the PG team to discuss Iranian-leftist history, the revolution, idealism, and what is to be done. In this episode we talk about a text called The Anti-Imperialist Imperialism Club: On Left Internationalism and Iran, which can be found in Heatwave Magazine Issue two. “Despite the anti-imperialist demagoguery, the Islamic Republic has always been willing to be integrated into the international bourgeois community. The idea that the United States is intransigent in its opposition to the Islamic Republic, and vice versa-that the current Iranian regime is intransigent in its “resistance”-is the stuff of comic books and bad spy movies. Iran has a bourgeoisie, and like all bourgeoisies, it is first and foremost concerned with preserving its interests; this supersedes ideological loyalty to any political power. … Decades of IMF restructuring, liberalization, and austerity have demonstrated the current Iranian administration’s desire to join the global economic order. The capitalist class will work to preserve its interests, perhaps even jettison their fealty to the current regime if it suits them. To suggest otherwise is pure idealism.” https://heatwavemag.info/magazine/issue02/anti-imperialist-imperialism-club/ SIGN UP NOW at https://patreon.com/partygirls to get all of our bonus content, Discord access, and a shout out on the pod! The PG crew revisits two evergreen themes: art under capitalism, and the evils of Big Tech. Specifically: Is Boots Riley a SELLOUT for using CAPITALIST MONEY to make COMMUNIST ART? We discuss. (We almost talked about the Strokes' political art at Coachella too, but we ran out of time.) And in the tech arena, we've got Facebook/Meta banning the word "antifa" because it considers it "violence and incitement," and Big Tech's attempt to further dismantle our healthcare system and erode workers' rights with "Uber for nurses." Luckily, nurses' unions are no joke. Last but certainly not least, we give an update on Jakhi McCray, a young activist convicted of the arson of 10(!!!) NYPD squad cars in a bold feat of direct action and community defense. Class consciousness is spreading across the globe like wildfire, sometimes in the form of literal wildfire. Chamel Abdulkarim, you are hotter than that toilet paper warehouse that didn't pay you enough to live as it mysteriously burned to the ground. If only that DoorDash grandma (frownie face) had your verve. In related news, Sam Altman's house was attacked twice and workers are burning shit down in India. It's gonna be a long, hot summer! Plus: the latest "alarming" teen trend, and Jamie and Sam respond to comments from listeners. Communist geographer Phil Neel, author of 'Hinterland: America's New Landscape of Class and Conflict' and 'Hellworld: The Human Species and the Planetary Factory,' joins us to discuss his latest essays on the party, 'Theory of the Party,' published in Ill Will Editions, and 'What May Come' from the forthcoming issue of Heatwave. How should communists think about organizational forms in this tumultuous age? What is revolutionary subjectivity, and why is it important? How should we be organizing, both in between moments of rupture and during the moment of truth, and who even are "we"? One thing's for certain: communists need to get hobbies. A brain-expanding conversation, if we do say so ourselves. It's finally spring in NYC and Chicago! Too bad the world is ending. In this episode, the PG crew tackle the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway, the death of OnlyFans owner/top AIPAC donor Leonid Radvinsky (rest in piss), the soon-to-be-built largest data center on planet earth, more extreme weather, and the January 6 insurrectionists' lawsuit against the Capitol police. And how could we resist discussing the no-longer-secret kinks of Kristi Noem's husband, Bryon Noem? As a person of bimbofication experience, Jamie gives you a kink-shaming pass. In the wake of the Prairieland verdict, Sam and Jamie speak with Alex and Blue, two comrades engaged in support work for the defendants. How did this ridiculous show trial, in which evidence included possession of a feminist essay on the movies of Ari Aster (yes, you read that right) result in convictions for the defendants on almost all counts? The invention of "Antifa" as a domestic terrorist group. The various ways the Trump administration put its thumb on the scale for the prosecution and the implications for dissent in the Trump 2.0 era. How this case dovetails with Trump's persecution of trans people. Plus, we read the names of the people who snitched.
