The clothes we inherit, covet, purchase, borrow, wear, store, destroy, or give away are intricately woven into our ideas about who we are and how we relate to others and the world around us. Clothes are things that can console us or trouble us. They can be objects buoyant with cherished memories and self-affirming associations—or weighed down with loss, disappointment, or other difficult feelings. Edited by the feminist media scholar Dr Rosie Findlay, Senior Lecturer in Media at City, University of London, it’s a rich and idiosyncratic book that carefully attends to everyday practices of dress as they connect to emotion, memory, imagination, and experience.Diverse in its approach to dress—including clothing as well as jewellery, wigs, prosthetics, and other garments that we wear close to the skin—Dressays also brings together an array of writing styles and voices.
