SIGNED: G Akira Schmid and the Panthers avoid arbitration after agreeing to a two-year deal!

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the contract extension between the Panthers and RFA G Akira Schmid. Both sides agreed and signed a two-year, $2M AAV deal, that will expire in the 2027-28 season. Both sides avoid arbitration, and the Cats will get one UFA year out of Schmid, meaning their goaltending tandem is locked up for the next two seasons. What does the percentage of what the tandem currently takes up compare to years past? What could today's tandem price be in two years when the Cats have to make another decision on what to do between the pipes? Due to what Schmid was given on his deal after signing everybody else, the Panthers will be short the 23-man roster limit, but it's not the first time in the Zito era (actually the fourth time) that they will be short a player to start the year. That will mean with the various one-way contracts signed, there will be an additional cut after training camp, more than likely (varies with injuries). Zito's long term thinking will have the Panthers offseason with very few decisions in 2027.
