Ep 265 - Conservation Photography & Ecological Thinking with Anna Morgan

Anna Morgan came to landscape photography via veterinary science, her own practice, and a Master's degree in Conservation Medicine from the University of Edinburgh. That research brought photography and conservation together in ways that still shape everything she does. Now based on Vancouver Island after moving from the UK, Anna gravitates toward quiet, intimate scenes and abstract interpretations of the natural world rather than grand vistas or wildlife subjects. She chose landscapes partly to avoid disturbing animals, and partly because solitude in nature is central to her practice and her wellbeing. In this episode Anna talks about Indigenous stewardship and why she avoids sharing precise locations, her preference for intuitive and serendipitous shooting over heavy planning, and how she defines success as opening people's hearts rather than building a large audience. She also discusses running workshops focused on authenticity, creativity and ecological connection, and the thinking behind her master's thesis on photographers' roles in conservation.
