Mark 7:9–23 Jesus continues His conversation with the Pharisees and teachers of the law, showing how human traditions can become excuses for disobeying God. Through the example of Corban, Jesus reveals that something can sound religious while still hiding a heart that is far from Him. Then Jesus turns everyone’s attention from what is outside the body to what is within. In this episode, kids will learn: God’s Word has greater authority than human traditions. A good activity should never become an excuse for disobedience. Biblical “heart” is not the heart organ in our chest and is explained. Our circumstances may reveal anger, envy, pride, or other sin already within us- kid examples used to help them grasp this. Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus is forgiven and made right with God. Big idea Sin begins within our hearts, and only Jesus can forgive and cleanse our sinful hearts A Note for Parents Because families listen with children of different ages and at different stages of development, Verse 21  has been adapted with young listeners in mind. Parents may wish to read the complete passage below and explain its terms in the way they believe is most appropriate for their family: “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
