Just Human #386

In this episode, we take a look at where the Midterm Blue Wave originated from.We now know that a huge group of people who did not vote in 2024 (because they weren't politically interested, disliked their options, were too young, whatever) showed up in large numbers to oppose the current thing. These voters broke hard for Democrats.Their #1 issue was the economy; they blamed the party in power for it and voted for change. They did not suddenly become Democratic Socialists, and they did not vote based on any sort of agreement with the policy positions of Democratic Socialists. They voted in opposition to the current situation as they perceived it: namely, concerns about the economy, corruption, immigration (specifically heavy-handed deportation practices), bad Republican candidates, and, to a lesser but not insignificant extent, the terrible messaging from the GOP and malign influences that pushed them towards Dems or not voting at all.And in that there is a white pill. Because the Blue Wave is not an ideological one but an oppositional, reactionary one, it does not represent a permanent Democrat vote block. We can win those voters, and we can win the next group of new voters, too.I hope you will join me in dealing with the midterm loss and the explanations for it directly. Most of all, I hope you will join me in stoicly moving forward and working towards winning back what we have just lost. The Just Human Podcast and Just Cases Newsletter are reader-supported publications.
