The Mets vanquished all of their demons by sweeping the Miami Marlins at home, and then they flew out to the Pacific Northwest to be a little embarrassing again. Mark "Swaggy V" Vientos responded to criticism by saying "I have to give myself props." This week on Hits Different, Ellen, Kait, and Dave report from a dank cave to talk about the pitchforks that are out for Swag, the lore behind the fake stat "game-winning RBI," the ethics of gambling and the ethics of having a 40-year-old ballboy who is dealing drugs to the players. Send us questions, we love them!!! hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.comLet's go Mets! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ten years ago this week, Mets manager Terry Collins begged for one more chance to try to kill Chase Utley—and you know what? He was right. This time on Hits Different, David breaks down an iconic moment in Mets history. Also, Kaitlyn reveals another irritating feminist stance she has been stewing over, and Ellen receives some thrilling information in a voicenote from Listener Thalia. We talk a bit about the 2026 New York Mets as well, but there's only so much we could say about what happened in Miami. You gotta believe! LGM!Send us questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com!! We were so back, then it was so over, then we were so back again, and then it was a little bit over. And next? Who knows! This week on Hits Different, Ellen and Dave recap their first Subway Series experience, and we get into conspiracy theories about why the Mets briefly gave Gary Carter's number to new Baby Met Nick Morabito. (Morabito has since switched to #55, in honor of Dicky Lovelady and/or Ryne Stanek.) The Yankees broke Clay Holmes leg and I had to see Brett Baty strike out on the side of a hotel in Times Square. But then Tyrone Taylor broke the Yankees and Brett Baty hit a home run into a dumpster.Francisco Lindor may be back in June!Who is your all-time favorite Met? Great question from a young listener this week. Let us know who yours is!Email us questions or stories at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.comLet's go Mets!! Hosted on Acast. This week on Hits Different, we're discussing the Mets' 5-4 road trip out West. At moments, the boys we love were bopping. At others, we were watching guys we had never seen before in our lives commit defensive errors resulting in runs. On Mothers' Day no less. David Stearns caught an attitude in his latest press conference and SOMEONE (no idea who) leaked an incredibly awesome thing that Pete Alonso said to his face in 2024. We're in about the 5 millionth chapter of this nerd-vs-jock narrative, and in this one it is Pete who is coming out looking like the hero. But who knows? Next week that could change. Just kidding—Pete forever!!!Let's go Mets <3 Send us your questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Mets have been out west in the SNOW. They've scored some runs but they've also entered a "fluid" shortstop situation. They've decided not to fire their manager, but this announcement has done nothing to tamp down the utterly hysterical discourse about whether they should fire their manager. This week on Hits Different, we discuss David's new membership in the Society of American Baseball Research and Ellen's latest adventure with Citi Field egg rolls. Kait went to visit Pete at Yankee Stadium. We were a little all over the place, and near the end I think we talk about CIA intervention in Latin America for longer than made sense. We're still waiting to find out how we feel about the Mets this year. Anything could happen! Carson Benge could win Rookie and Cutie of the Year!! Let's go Mets <3 Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Mets won a baseball game, ending their worst losing streak since last week. But then they lost again. Everyone else's managers are fired. Swaggy V is back on the market. Citi Field has sprung multiple leaks and Ellen's parents were drenched. This week on Hits Different, Ellen, David, and Kait talk about another wonderful week of New York baseball. The Mets are off on a nine-game road trip and we will miss them!!! Let's go Mets. (Feebly) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week on Hits Different, we're talking about the Amazins' amazing 12-game losing streak, their longest since 2002. On Wednesday night, the streak finally ended, but at what cost? Francisco Lindor is now in a walking boot due to a calf strain so severe that he refuses to even look at the imaging. He hasn't looked down at his leg at all, actually. He doesn't want to know!!!How are you feeling about the Mets? It's sort of a weird time, because of course we all saw a Baty Bomb (not discussed in this episode) on Thursday night, but we also saw Craig Kimbrel. We saw the streak end, but it was with two narrow victories over a team that (with respect) has no aspirations to accomplish anything this year. We saw Francisco Lindor wince and we screamed. The one thing we are sure about is that the Minnesota-themed Hot Dish egg roll was GREAT. Two thumbs up. Ellen's most enthusiastic review so far (out of the two she has done). The one other thing we're sure about is LET'S GO METS.Send us questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com— send via voice note if you wish! We would love that.Let's go Mets!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Many horrible things have happened. It's 90 degrees in April. We're without David. We're sweating. We're upset because the Mets won't stop losing. You would think at some point they would win because of a fluke, but they haven't. This week on Hits Different, Ellen and Kait mostly discuss their physical and emotional discomfort. Brett Baty is the only qualified hitter left in MLB who has yet to record a walk, and we were there to see him almost record one but then have it taken back by ABS. (I, Kait, am now anti-ABS.) Three Mets struck out on 10 pitches in the 9th inning of a one-run game even though only 2 of those pitches were in the strike zone. We received a surprisingly moving and delightful voice note from an avowed Atlanta Braves fan? Nothing's right. Everything's wrong. Jared Young is having knee surgery! We'll probably go to every single game when the Mets get back to New York. We should be with them in their darkest hour. Let's go Mets! Write to us at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Hosted on Acast.
