*CW* emotional abuse, suicidal ideation, parentificationShelly grew up believing that every hardship had a spiritual explanation. After her parents' dramatic conversion to Christianity, they were convinced that her health problems were punishment for her mother's past, and later blamed Shelly's own suffering on her sin. As she navigated parentification, the loss of her brother after he was kicked out, and eventually a high-control ministry she had to secretly flee, Shelly spent years trying to earn love that always seemed conditional. In this episode, we talk about religious trauma, deconstruction, chronic illness, high control ministries, setting boundaries with family, and why going no contact ultimately became the healthiest decision she ever made. -Shelly’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/thetangledandtrue/Shelly’s Substack: https://thetangledandtrue.substack.com/-Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HealedishFollow for more: Jubilee’s TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jubileedawns Jubilee’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/jubileedawns Healed-ish TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healedishpodcast Healed-ish IG: https://www.instagram.com/healedishpodcast Apply To Share Your Story: https://forms.gle/23f8SPBX1VntsqUU8

Bailee was raised as a pastor's kid in the Pentecostal church, where speaking in tongues, prophecies, and miraculous healing were part of everyday life. She was taught that God always wants to heal, so when her father was diagnosed with cancer, her family fully expected a miracle. After he passed away, she began to question some of the beliefs she had been taught. In this episode, we talk about growing up in the Word of Faith movement, the lasting impact of teachings on hell, her time at IHOP and Oral Roberts University, and what it looks like to embrace curiosity after years of having all the answers. Today, Bailee is the co-host of Praise Be To Pod, where she continues exploring religion, doubt, and deconstruction.-Resources for embodiment - Cole Arthur Riley: https://www.instagram.com/colearthurriley/?hl=en- My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem - Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi CoatesResource for progressive christianity / deconstruction- Kristian Smith: https://www.instagram.com/thekristianasmith/?hl=en-Bailee’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/paynebailee/Praise Be To Pod: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XkmQGWnGRq7SalxjjtOmDPraise Be To Pod IG: https://www.instagram.com/praisebetopod/Praise Be To Pod Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@praisebetopod-Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HealedishFollow for more: Jubilee’s TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jubileedawns Jubilee’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/jubileedawns Healed-ish TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healedishpodcast Healed-ish IG: https://www.instagram.com/healedishpodcast Apply To Share Your Story: https://forms.gle/23f8SPBX1VntsqUU8
*Content warning: emotional abuse, animal abuse*Ashley, co-host of Praise Be To Pod, didn't grow up deeply religious. After attending youth camps as a teenager, she dove headfirst into evangelical Christianity and even encouraged her own parents to become more involved in church. Eventually, she found her way into charismatic Christianity, where she experienced speaking in tongues, witnessed healing miracles, and spent time as a missionary. But Ashley's story took a complicated turn when she met the man she believed God had chosen for her. Despite her doubts and a relationship filled with criticism, she felt convinced that God was telling her he would be her husband. She describes it as feeling almost like an arranged marriage by God. In this episode, Ashley shares how her marriage eventually unraveled, how divorce gave her permission to ask difficult questions, and how she found her way through deconstruction, remarriage, and co-hosting Praise Be To Pod-Ashley’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/thisashley/Praise Be To Pod: https://open.spotify.com/show/3XkmQGWnGRq7SalxjjtOmDPraise Be To Pod IG: https://www.instagram.com/praisebetopod/Praise Be To Pod Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@praisebetopod-Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HealedishFollow for more: Jubilee’s TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jubileedawns Jubilee’s IG: https://www.instagram.com/jubileedawns Healed-ish TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healedishpodcast Healed-ish IG: https://www.instagram.com/healedishpodcast Apply To Share Your Story: https://forms.gle/23f8SPBX1VntsqUU8
