Many people have the understanding and the misunderstanding that this was initiated by the U.S. Coast Guard. That they called for all available boats and that's when the boats started. This was happening for two hours before that calling out, and individual mariners made that choice. The choice that the highest-ranking officer who was then Lt. Mike Day, he made this absolutely tremendous decision not to come in and take over, but to come in a facilitate with the knowledge about the harbor, its information from the Sandy Hook pilots with all of this with resources to help support and grant permission to keep doing the thing that's going so well. The reason why he felt empowered to be able to do that it had everything to do with READL leadership. TRUE leadership which is so lacking right now.
