Good afternoon, I'm _ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening  The Tai-Ex opened down 52-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 47,130 on turnover of 8-billion N-T. The market closed slightly higher on Wednesday despite giving up early gains, as investors await the release of the latest data on U-S consumer prices (消費者物價) and inflation. Investor momentum (動能) stalled as profit-taking set in when the Tai-Ex moved closer to the all-time intraday high of 48,218 points. AIT chief on economic impact of Taiwan Strait conflict  American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene says a conflict across the Taiwan Strait could inflict (造成傷害／損失) an economic cost greater than that of World War II. Greene made the remarks in a keynote address at the 2026 Taipei Security Dialogue. The event was organized by the government funded Institute for National Defense and Security Research think tank (智庫). According to Greene, Taiwan doesn't need to demonstrate that it can win a war outright in order to deter a conflict, but it must convince a potential adversary that landing a large ground force would be extremely difficult. CDC reports 30 mpox cases in 2026 and imported infections double The Centers for Disease Control says 30 confirmed mpox cases have been reported so far this year. According to the C-D-C, imported cases have more than doubled from last year and most cases are linked to unprotected sexual contact (無防護性接觸). The statement comes as the C-D-C announced two new mpox infections - one of which was locally acquired and the other imported. Health authorities say both cases involved unvaccinated men who had engaged in unprotected sexual activity. Data shows that as of September 7, the C-D-C had confirmed 20 domestic and 10 imported mpox cases so far this year. All of the patients were men aged between 20 and 50. IAEA refers Iran to UN security council for first time in 20 years as war enters 8th month The International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors has voted to refer Iran to the United Nations Security Council for breaching its nuclear non-proliferation (核不擴散) obligations — the first such referral in twenty years. The vote came as US President Donald Trump said the war with Iran would end immediately after November's midterm elections, saying Tehran cannot sustain (維持) the conflict much longer — though the White House says it is not seeking to resume negotiations. The president's comments come amid rising energy costs, with oil climbing above a hundred dollars a barrel during the seven-month conflict. Jagruti Dave, our reporter in Washington, says the IAEA resolution adds diplomatic pressure on Tehran but is widely seen as unlikely to produce new sanctions because of the vetoes held by Russia and China on the Security Council. Kenya Nurses Strike Ends wtih Return-to-Work Agreement A 43-day nurses’ strike in Kenya that paralyzed (使癱瘓／使陷入停擺) public hospitals has ended after the government and the nurses’ union signed a return-to-work agreement. The nurses marched Tuesday to the Council of Governors’ office, a body established to bring together Kenya’s 47 county governments. On Wednesday, union representatives signed the agreement at the same office.  The union said nurses would return to hospitals within 24 hours.  They say the return-to-work agreement provided 45 days for negotiations to conclude on the implementation (實施／執行) of the 2017 agreement.
