The Gospel of John Lesson 38: Why the Jews Hated Jesus - 5:9-11

Today’s passage marks a turning point and sets the tone for the rest of the Gospel account of John. From this point on, he will be explaining why the Jewish leaders hated Jesus. After healing the lame man by the pool, Jesus tells him to take up his bed and walk. According to the Law of the Pharisees, moving your mat was a disgrace and a sin against God and the Sabbath. Did Jesus have the man commit a crime? And what was the man’s response when the Pharisees questioned him? Did he defend Jesus and stand up for Him? Or did he stand up for the world?
