The Shadow and Doc Savage #'s 1 and 2 with Robby Robertson
On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Robby Robertson try to figure out why someone would even want to eat the bitter fruit of a weed while discussing 1995's THE SHADOW AND DOC SAVAGE #'s 1 and 2. Matt and Robby have been friends in the podcast world for a few years now, but Matt realized that he really didn't know anything about Robby - like is he really a chef? And a doctor? Does he really come from Georgia? The answer to all of those is yes, but that barely scratches the surface of just how cool Robby is. After we get to know Robby, then it's all about The Shadow! And to a lesser extent, Doc Savage (sorry, but both Matt and Robby know more about The Shadow -- so if you're listening and happen to be a Doc Savage expert, reach out and we'll do an episode together!). It's cool though, The Shadow and Doc Savage beat up Nazis together. So even if Matt and Robby don't know much about this Doc Savage fellow, they know he's awesome because he beats up Nazis. Primal Force #2 with Ian Anderson
On this episode Matt and Ian try their best to avoid being sassed by Cataclysm while they talk about 1994's PRIMAL FORCE #2! The issue by issue discussion of PRIMAL FORCE continues! Before getting into PRIMAL FORCE #2 Matt tells Ian all about their beloved Jack O'Lantern's first appearance, which can best be described as charmingly dark. Then Matt tries to verbally edit a joke he tells in this episode into the previous episode. He still has no idea how podcasts work. Then it's time for the big showdown: The Leymen (remember they are NOT called Primal Force) versus Cataclysm...in a park! It's a great fight because we see the villain get punched in the butt by a creature made of clay. Also, Ian puts a real fine point on the downside of being friends with Meridian. Or if you like being handed a baby by someone who just teleported into your apartment in the middle of the afternoon while you're only wearing a shirt, then Ian really shines a light on the upside of being friends with Meridian. Walter Koenig's Raver #1 with A. Lee Martinez and David Walton
On this episode Matt and special guest co-hosts A. Lee Martinez (author of UNBEARABLE - available now!) and David Walton (recovering from eye surgery now!) try to decide which one of them is going to be sacrificed while the other two eat ice cream and discuss 1993's RAVER #1. Regular listeners to the show will have seen it coming for a while now, but this is the episode that finally broke Matt. The comic, written by STAR TREK's very own Walter Koenig, was just the right combination of interesting and baffling that it opened the cosmic door and let madness run rampant into Matt's mind. He will now do nothing but ramble insufferably (well, ramble insufferably MORE than before). But what about Lee and David? Well, to add insult to Matt's madness, somehow they both kept their heads about them and also managed to speak intelligently about RAVER #1. In fact, David reveals himself to be some sort of philosopher while Lee stakes a claim to be Does This Come in Chromium's "Arbiter of Interesting" (business cards coming soon). There's no other way to put it: this is the WILDEST episode of Chromium yet and you'd have to be some sort of rav(er)ing lunatic to not listen! Primal Force #1 with Ian Anderson
On this episode Matt and rookie Leyman Ian Anderson prepare to recite an awkwardly long oath by discussing 1994's PRIMAL FORCE #1. That's right folks, the issue by issue coverage of PRIMAL FORCE begins here! Well, technically it began with the PRIMAL FORCE #0 episode, but now it's official. Matt and Ian will be talking about the entire run of PRIMAL FORCE. Issue by issue. Or at least that's the plan until Ian forsakes the Leymen's oath, throws his medallion in the nearest pool, and walks away from the show. Night Thrasher #1 with Corey Blake
On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Corey Blake try to avoid getting their butts kicked as they discuss the kick butt 1993 kick butt comic NIGHT THRASHER #1 (starring the kick butt Night Thrasher who does indeed kick butt). At one point Night Thrasher was the kick butt leader of the New Warriors, a truly kick butt team, but now he's a kick butt solo character. The question is, does Night Thrasher work as a solo character or does he shine brighter as part of a kick butt ensemble? Matt isn't sure of the answer, mainly because he's unfamiliar with anything kick butt. But(t) rest assured, Corey does have all of the kick butt answers to all of the kick butt questions! Along the way, Matt struggles with the differences between metaphorically and literally killing someone, talks at length about the kick butt band Foreigner, and wonders if Night Thrasher is a vampire. Reign of the Supermen Part 1 with David Walton and Glitch
On this episode Matt and special guest co-hosts David Walton and Glitch meet four super cool dudes (of which not a single one of them is totally evil) who are calling dibs on the name Superman as they discuss 1993's ACTION COMICS #687, SUPERMAN #78, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #501, and SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #22. That's right, the long promised discussion of the REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN finally begins here! The guys kick things off by tackling the most pressing issue of all, deciding which of the replacement Supermen is their personal favorite. Then things turn in a very DOES THIS COME IN CHROMIUM direction as David reveals that he's STILL worried that he killed Superman with his indifference, Matt is STILL waiting for the four replacement Supermen to Voltron into the one true Superman, and Glitch STILL hates Jeb Friedman with a fiery passion. Batman Vs. the Incredible Hulk with Bryan Q. Miller
On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Bryan Q. Miller (writer of BATGIRL, SMALLVILLE, HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) try their best to not breathe in the congealed air while discussing 1981's BATMAN VS. THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Both Matt and Bryan spent time working at Borders Books (RIP) so their conversation begins by talking extensively about BINC stickers and the prominent role they played in their lives. It's a trip down memory lane that doubles as a therapeutic exorcism of some bad memories for Matt. More importantly, Bryan talks about how he went from working at Borders to writing for SMALLVILLE and the BATGIRL series starring Stephanie Brown (which, most importantly to Matt, is his second favorite series of all time). Then it's time to talk about the two Bruces. One becomes a bat(man) while the other becomes some sort of hulk(ing monster). You've probably heard of them before. They fight. They team-up. The Joker's there too, along with the Shaper of Worlds. That part's kind of bizarre - but in a good way. Look, you (yes, YOU!) want to listen to this episode because Bryan's an amazing writer and guest, you definitely like Batman, you don't want to make the Hulk mad, and last but DEFINITELY least - because Matt (probably) doesn't mention Night Man.
