After saving Holly Jonas from a near-fatal mugging, Lani's mother, Paulina Price, is keen on having Lani reclaim her badge. Prior to working at Sweet Bits for her sister, Chanel Dupree, Lani was one of Salem's most dedicated detectives until a tragic incident involving Paulina's ex-husband, TR Coates, led to her losing her freedom and her badge. DOOL spoilers recall, TR, also known as Ray, was revealed to be Lani's biological father. Despite warnings from Paulina, Lani gave him a chance, which turned out to be a bad decision as Ray hadn't changed his abusive ways. A confrontation led to Ray shooting Eli Grant and putting him into a coma. Lani, acting on instinct, fatally shot Ray, but Paulina claimed responsibility to protect her daughter. Overwhelmed by guilt, Lani confessed to the crime during Abe and Paulina's Juneteenth wedding. Spoilers for Days of our Lives remember when Lani was subsequently sent to prison in Maryland, away from Statesville, to protect her from inmates she had previously arrested. During a temporary release for Abe's memorial, Lani managed to uncover the truth about Abe's staged drowning by Whitley King. With her sentence completed in February 2024, Lani returned to Salem with her family. More DOOL spoilers indicate that back in her hometown, Lani has been busy helping Chanel with Sweet Bits and raising her twins. However, a recent incident where she stopped a mugging showed that her detective instincts are still sharp. Paulina is now consulting with Stephanie, inquiring how she could ask the governor to pardon Lani. With the Salem Police Department in need of more officers and the current police commissioner, Jada Hunter, about to leave, Lani might soon be back in her detective role, much to the delight of fans.
